UM222 chip & carrier

I just purchased a UM222 chip for my '99 996. When it arrived, the chip was separated from the carrier. What is the proper orientation of the chip to the carrier? It seems that the chip can go into the carrier either way. I understand that the chip, once installed in the carrier is installed with the notch in the chip closest to the housing of the ECU, just like the original chip.

This is based on the picture provided in the installation instructions for the chip. Looking at the ECU so that the cable connections are on the left, the notch on the board will orient towards the cable connections and the chip will plug into the board so that the writing on the chip is right side up (i.e readable, not upside down). If needed, I can try to scan the instructions.
