exhaust sealant

at every juncture/slip in area? (748) on my exhaust, from the headers back i have exhaust leaks and i want them gone. I've done the Bondo exhaust filler/selant, some off brand exhaust leak stopper, and even JB welded it. regarding JB weld, it melts like a freak and stinks like a dead animal.

i've thought about exhaust wrap but am to lazy to order it. anyone have any ideas on how to stop the problem, as in what do you use?

thanks regardless.

When I helped install my friend exhaust on his 04 999, it did the same thing but only with the small vertical header. We tried everything and nothing worked because it gets so hot that it melts everything. We even welded the pipes too lol, but he eventually got a full system and fixed the problem.

My 05 999s came with a slip on and it had small leaks from the slip on and the small vertical cylinder header, but it goes away once the pipes are hot. I guess it expands or something. Ducati's seal are too thin/small and it does not seal correctly. I've heard of some people installing a two DP exhaust seals instead of one and it fixes the problem. The only issue about the two exhaust seals is that it is a pain in the behind to install the pipes together.

I used permatex copper RTV silicone with considerable success. It's bright orange in color so just make sure you cleanup any excess from the outside, unless you like that look.

Oh yeah,...you can get it at most advance autoparts stores.

I used a bandaid type of sealant, that drys with heat. Didn't like it. I think I 'm going to get some high temp silicon.

Take the pipes to a good muffler shop and have them expand the fittings slightly to get a tighter fit.

Before you go: mark each fitting carefully and mark areas where it is leaking so they know what joints need the most attention.

Use the Permatex when putting it together (that stuff is only good for small gaps).

Just saw this as a link to from another thread.

Best for me in this instance is, as mentioned above, high temp silicone. Just use Loctite grey silicone. It doesn't move, harden, burn and stays pliable. Excess wipes right off. I use it right at the head/header connection and everywhere else and it's stable as anything.

Permatex Motoseal Ultimate Gasket Maker Grey. It's designed for this sort of application. Apply it liberally to both halves, put it together, wipe off the excess and let it dry a little while. It cures when the exhaust heats up.
