May 18, 2017 Tail of Dragon Crash

On May 18th a group of friends and I were riding the Tail of the Dragon. Shortly before we headed out of the Deal's Gap Motorcycle Resort we saw a group of three Multistrada's roll out. They stood out to me because I've owned three Multistrada's and they were three of my favorite bikes.

Unfortunately, about 1/2 way through the 11 mile run we came upon that group of three Multistrada bikes and one of the three was involved in a bad crash. The rider had come together with a trailer which was being towed behind a pick up truck and he was hurt quite badly. It was terrible to see him so badly hurt. All of us in our group were really concerned about him and disturbed by what we saw.

Do any of us know who this fallen rider was or how he is doing?

Always a sobering moment when we see one of our own on the ground in pain. Hope they can make a full recovery.

Very unfortunate, but jeez you really don't expect trailers on that road.

On the Dragon you do. It's not as bad as it used to be but it still happens.

Don't even need trailers, half the riders on that road are just as likely to cross over the center line in a corner. Safest place is the parking lot where you can sip a cool drink and watch the ambulances go by

That's on the weekends when all the new Harley riders take their women there to learn how to ride.

During the week it's motorcycle heaven!

I think semi's are prohibited but I bet they get on there anyway occasionally. When I was there (couple days before the OP's crash) there was a semi with a dozer (not just long but wide load too) on the road... but he was escorted by a couple cops (he was dropping the dozer on the road so he had to be there).

They did. Now it's limited to 30 foot.

A funny story. this last May we got behind a truck delivering mattress. What, maybe 20 feet or so.

We thought it would suck but the dude was hauling ass! At a pull over he did, but I was thinking shit, go on dude, I'm good following.

When we passed he had one arm out the window steering with one hand. This dude was smoking.

Lesson to be learned. The locals are fast.

True story. I have witnesses.
