won't start except with PIN code . . .

yesterday I picked up my '16 PP from the dealer after getting its first service done and install an electronic gas cap and as I get home and unload the bike from my trailer in the pouring rain, I can't get her started. Everything is dead except when I twist the black key button by tank the dashboard lights up and asks for my pin code. Thats the only way to get her started. The electronic steering lock isn't engaging anymore either . . . That didn't happen before service/gas cap replacement . . . Anybody else experience something similar? If so, is there any resolution? Of course the bike is going back to dealer . . .

Sounds like a service tech texting instead of working to me. Sorry to hear, but not surprised. I've had similar things happen bringing my bikes and cars back from dealerships.

Funny you say that. I just happen to have replaced tires on my car, had alignment done, picked it up, drove a few miles and noticed steering is pulling to the left so its going back to the shop as well . . . 😠

Could it be as simple as the battery in your fob is dead so the bike can't communicate with it?

that is indeed very possible, easy enough to find out! As soon as I get a chance I'll be replacing it with a new one. I did learn the hard way on my '10 Multi that the battery shouldn't be kept near the bike for extended periods as apparently it constantly communicates with it. And I'm certain they kept the key close to the bike the entire time it was being serviced . . . As soon as I find out I'll report back

My 2013 does that sometimes, if it's been left out in the rain.
I'll only start with the PIN. Once it's warmed up and dries out it once again works with the fob.

+1!!! Missed the part about the pouring rain. My apologies to the dealer (for now).

Many MTS's do not like to get wet do strange things when they do. Mine included. It will sometimes shut down in the rain. Not cool at all. Do some searches here and you'll see you're not alone.

One MTS can be ridden all day in the rain without a problem, and the next can't. It's hard to believe this is even possible ON AN ADVENTURE BIKE, a pricey one at that, and in this day and age.

No bike is bullet proof, but this is one area that really bothers me about the MTS. Never had this happen on my other bikes.

PS - I have stated previously that if I lived in a more rainy climate, this bike would have been gone long ago for safety reasons. I can live with it now because I know the shut down might be coming and I'm ready for it when it rains. I just saw that sixfive lives in rainy Oregon! Sixfive, even if it dries out and you get it working right, I recommend you get the bike back to the dealer for a fix and/or at least to document this event if you think this is going to a long term hassle for you.

Just to add, I've never had it not start or to shut down, and once it's lit it works fine with the fob.
It just needs the PIN for the first start after sitting outside in the rain.
No a good thing, but I'm not going to see the dealer about it. That's a whole 'nuther thing.

Good to hear! A much better outcome than the alternative.
