2010 Multistrada replacement = Strada Aperta?
Quote:
"Stradaperta 1200 begins to be on the lips and minds of all motorcycle riders and enthusiasts of Rosse di Borgo Panigale. Heir of what has been the victim of its own design rather than intinsecamente of 'progress' with the times, the Multistrada, the novel' handyman 'Ducati maintained almost entirely intact the spirit multi-purpose of its progenitor, deeply evolving forms and engineering.
According to initial information we have gathered, 'rendered' from the famous pencil Raffaele Poblete, Stradaperta should be the first product on which Ducati will install the engine cylinder 1200 DS: the third step of the DS family, the new L-twin air-cooled born to offer higher performance, not only to low and middle regimes. The intent of technical Borgo Panigale, in fact, is to break the wall of the 100 hp ... but put from the proverbial quality delivery of the medium and low revs, always icon of V2 Dual Spark. As for the 848 Testastretta first SBK and then reply, DS 1200 will exploit the vacuum Vacural technology for the merger of the casing, which will save about 3 kg compared with a traditional procedure.
Light, the entire Ducati philosophy 'less is more', and all CVs used for a motorcycle in this category, the new Stradaperta 1200 will propose a revised version of the chassis and correct decomposable already seen on Monster 696 and 1100. At the rear frame of cast aluminum, therefore, will be joined by high-strength bolts the top trellis structure of steel tubes, which will take shape and measures other than those of Monster.
A fork stems overturned monobraccio rear Brembo brakes and high-performance, the new Ducati Stradaperta based on wheels in aluminum alloy from 17 '. There are rumors, for now, a possible enduro declination of this project, but there is no doubt that the success of the front wheel from 19 '- see BMW GS - has long been under evaluation in the highest floors Marketing Ducati."

OK, thats more like it. I heard all kinds of rumors of the new MTS having the 1198 motor stuffed into it. My response was why? However, increasing the displacement of the very reliable twin spark to 1200cc is a great option. My 1100 has enough grunt for me and more to spare. The 1200 will satisfy the power requirements for the two up riders. I think the rendering, if accurate, is very nice although the banana seat look is not my favorite. Appears to make an attempt to satisfy the needs of the ST enthusiasts and the MTS enthusiasts. Thank God Ducati didn't go the off road GS route. Looking forward to seeing the bike in person.
I just noticed the upswing from the rider seat to the passenger seat and beyond. This reminds me of the Triumph Tiger and frankly it looks like crap when you put a topcase on it. The case looks like its suspended in midair, being far too high in proportion to the bike. The same goes for the poor passenger. I don't think the design takes into account the passenger's position being considerably higher than the rider. I hope this isn't the final design.
The above rendering looks way too much like a hypermotard, could be a twin of same. I do like the near level height between the rider and passenger, this bodes well when you have a top case installed.

Damnit!! I am seriously considering buying a multi but was going to wait for it to grow out of the ugly duckling. Doesn't look like that's going to happen.

+1 on all fronts (i think). the seat: yuk! not only does it look bad it looks like it doesn't belong on a bike of that type. snazzy front fairing but not enough to lure me into one. yep, looks too much like a Hypermotard and not enough like something new. i remind myself that it's a rendering, so i won't get too excited nor disappointed at this juncture.

Interesting article...I read somewhere in a motorcycle magazine that Ducati would be moving to a 1200 air cooled motor. The extra 100 cc of displacement should easily get them from their already claimed 95 HP at the crank to over 100. It'll be a sweet future engine for the Hyper.

have to admit.. the last few Ducati's are looking less and less like Ducati.. and more and more japanese..
first the 1098 (which i don't mind ).. looks like a honda '06 1000rr or something.. to me it just looks like honda fairing on the front.. though the tail is a combo of the inlet vents from the 999.. with the tail shape of the f-4 Mv with angles instead of curves.... so i don't mind the tail.. but it is the most un-original looking Ducati superbike to me..
the fighter.. (again, i don't mind it ).. well looks like a kawi z1000..
now this.. multi whatever.. not my cup of tea at all... looks like Ducati is again going after kawi.. the Versy's or whatever it's called... who knows..
i miss P.Terblanche... my $.02..

The Multi grows out of the ugly duckling stage within a few weeks after you buy one. Trust me.
