First, the filter was to be inspected/cleaned at 1000KM.
If the leak is not a hemorrhage one could consider it a minor issue until next oil service.
If it was dealer serviced the fix could be on them if you so choose.
The screen filter has a plate with four fasteners that is sealed from the factory with silicone that is grey in color.
If the filter cover was R&I by a DIYer, you are on your own. Not a difficult job but will involve draining the oil, removing the cover, reseal with silicone. Or, a trip to the dealer.
The screen is not required to be cleaned at 12000KM service but you have reached 12000KM and it should be time for an oil service anyway. (if not recently performed)
Are you certain the leak is at the screen cover? Could be from the oil drain plug also as it is in the general vicinity.

Hi. I'm just putting my finishing touches to a mutley I bought that was a total write off!!. One of the (easy) things was to change the oil.
I took the plate off, drained the oil, cleaned all the old silicon off. Bought some new silicon (the recommended type) fitted it all back together........ and it leaked!! Just a weep like you describe.
The answer, is to take it all apart again and replace with a gasket mentioned and pictured on Andys great website here
Update Sep2011 - whilst Ducati's original instructions stated that the course oil screen cover plate should be sealed with a silicone based 'liquid gasket' type sealant they have now introduced the use of a 'crush' type gasket (not reusable;-) part number 78810651A

Had to take it all apart. Fitted it dry, and no leaks!
Take care. Paul.

I had a bad oil filter, leaked at the seam on the top of the oil filter , like a tin can top...
You are supposed to let the "Silicone" set up for a while too...
Get a few of them gaskets , handy if you never use them..

Right on!
Snug the four fasteners till sealant barely begins to squeeze out the edge of the cover, wait an hour, then apply correct torque in a 1-3-2-4-1-3-2-4 fashion.

My bike developed a leak when the weather turned cold.
I tightened the oil filter a bit more and I have not seen any oil sense.
I think its corrected now.
