After the Multi / replacement

I have had a 2011 MTS 1200S Touring for about 1 year now. Love it. Comfortable for long distance, yet capable for fun in the canyons.
But I also recently got a Triumph Street Triple 675. This is even better in the canyons, but probably only for that. I wouldn't go on day rides with the Triumph for example.
I have almost 7500 miles on the MTS, and I will take it for service soon. I am planning on selling it before the warranty is over though. So I have another year to go. But then what?
I already have my fun canyon carver (Triumph), so I would want to replace the MTS with something similar as far as fun + long distance comfort.

Anybody has some real long distance experience with a similar bike?

Buy an extended warranty for the MTS. Much cheaper than buying a new bike and unless some super new 2013 model comes out, anything available today would be a downgrade IMO.

I'm a bit confused. In your post you explicitly state about the MTS" Comfortable for long distance, yet capable for fun in the canyons" Then go on to ask "something similar as far as fun + long distance comfort"

Seeing that the MTS is pretty much a bang on answer to carving canyons yet capable for long distance travel, which apparently you agree with, didn't you just answer your question?

I did answer my question, yes. True, it's a bike I love. But after 2 years, no warranty and potential big problems... plus I like the new bike feel...
So within a year, I still want to sell my MTS and either get a new one, or something else. That's why I was asking.

But the extended warranty could be an idea. Anybody knows how to go about and purchase it on a year old bike? And what cost to expect?

Just go and test ride a few bikes , But what the the hell compares maybe a KTM ... There aint many so called adventure machines as up for it as the MTS!

There are many companies that offer them(just get on Google) but I've never come across one that didn't require your bike to currently still be in the mfgr warranty. Ducati also has a plan...check with your dealer. For Duc...two additional years will be about $1K.

That certainly runs contrary to just about everything I've read about the MTS1200's abilty to shame true sport bikes in the twisties. It's supposed to be the bike you're looking for. If, OTOH, you want 2 proper bikes, ie a proper sport bike and a proper toruing bike, then there are any number of comfortable touring bikes out there to choose from. If by long distance touring you mean shaft drive, and aren't big on "soul", then check out the new Concours 1400, or an FJR,. Both bikes are reputed to be comfortable if the sit-up and beg riding position is your idea of comfortable, and yet still have some very good sporting capacities in spades, not the least of which is brutal grunt from just above idle to red line. Honda's new VFR "Buffalo" may also be interesting to look at. I have heard the clutchless gearbox version is right out of F1. And of course there is the BMW K1300ST, or R1200RT; both bikes have shafts: the K is a rocket, the R steeped in pedigree. But why not get one of those new GS1200 water cooled adventure bikes? Now *there's* a real adventure bike, that's comfortable and handles very well too. Then again, there's the new Harley Davidson line up of twin shock "baggers" which are reputed to handle very well indeed with the new frame They are very comfy too. Good luck with your choice, but the MTS1200 seems to fit the bill right now. An extended warranty may help aleviate worries about future repair costs,as long as it covers electronic items as well as power train items that is. .

all feedbacks are appreciated ! It is true that this MTS is an amazing bike. There is no bike I would want more at this point...
I may very well look into an extended warranty after all...

Most dealers can sell you an extended warranty; check with your dealer. Extended warranty length is dependent on the age of the bike; i.e., instead of 5 years, you may only be able to get 4 years because your bike is a year old. Just make sure that the warranty carrier is a reputable company.

I have motorcycle and car ADD, or so my wife says...
Every year or 2, I like to try something new but I am finding it even more fun to get bikes and cars that are different enough that just grabbing a different set of keys gives me a different experience.

I don't think I will give up my Multi anytime soon, but I am considering some add'l rides to help mix it up.
Diavel - quite different, in looks, handling, similar power
Triumph Street Triple or MV Agusta Brutale 675 - lighter, quicker handling
ZX-14 - silky brute power
Husky SM630, KTM 690, Aprilia SXV450/550 - fun 'super' motard

Add an extended warranty to your Multi, keep the Triple and add something new and different to your 2 wheeled fleet!!
