Dumbass hands free ignition.
Well, the replacement 1200 MTS made it all of 2,000 miles before the POS hands free ignition unit died. Yes, I can still start it with the PIN code but what a PITA!
Seriously, who’s the stupid asshole came up with this solution to a non-existent problem? What the flying, flaming phuk is the matter with a key? This arrangement is nothing but a disaster waiting to prove Murphy was right. And, at least the way I use the bike, is a lot more inconvenient to use that a conventional mechanical system.
At least I’ve never been dumb enough to use the electronic fork lock.
And it boggles my whatchamacallit that some folks actually opt for more of this potential misery by converting the gas cap to electric.

That sucks dood, very sorry to hear you're still having issues.
Not to rub salt on your wound...I've never had issues with my ignition or the electric gas cap. Knock on wood.
I do wish Ducati had thought of using keys in the event something happens with the electronics. Would be a very nice fuzzy feeling to have a lock cylinder inside the cap and somewhere for the ignition.
Back on topic, good luck AK.

although mine is not as bad as AK's it's certainly not faultless despite replacement of the complete lock assembly, the red slide part on the h/bar and the electronic upgrade of the ECU.
Shortly after I had to get the bike off steering lock with the emergency button ... I agree, certainly not the best design idea I've seen over the years and too much prone to errors or bugs that you cannot really solve by yourself and may leave you stranded.

I am guessing many customers "want" this f'ing nonsense.
It started with cars; put the key in your pocket, approach the car, door unlocks, get in, push the "engine start" button and off you go. Lazy dumb focks want this crap.
Until they forget they have the key in the pocket and fall in a pool, spill beer on it, sit on it, or damage it somehow and your car will never start.
I am all for innovation, but I am not for innovation for innovation's sake. If it does not significantly improve your life, it's just another gadget (not a tool).

My dealer is scratching his head over this; and with a Diavel with the same problem that's been in their shop for two weeks.
Anybody know of a dealer who has solved this issue who I can have my dealer call?
Thanks in advance.

Sorry for the problems! I haven't had an issue with my MTS12 and have not heard of anyone from my dealer with any issues. Good luck!!
My old bike, a 2009 Concours 14 had a key that stayed in the ignition or you could remove it, but it would not turn to start unless the keyfob was near the bike. Not sure if this is a better design or not. I only had the bike for one summer, but no problems with the system.

Hrmmmm.....
Harleys have been employing a similar system for years. Have FOB in pocket, sit on bike, twist knob to "On", push starter, go ride. I have heard very few complaints of their system failing. Maybe Harley riders don't carry the evil, signal-killing iPhone.....
Call The Motor Cafe in Sunnyvale, CA ((800) 555-5547) and ask if they've had any customers come in with this issue, and if so, how they dealt with it. So far they've solved any issues I've had.
