Cartridge Info for Std Forks

OK starting to to do some research on Suspension, and wanted to know if the Std forks used open or closed cartridge?

As I understand if it is a closed cartridge system then service would be a replacement of the sealed cartridge ?

Open cartridge can be serviced ?

Never heard of an open or a closed cartridge. I've heard of sealed cartridges but they are like that because they are gas charged.

What do you want to do with your forks? Do you want to freshen up the oil or are you wanting to change valving, springs, oil, etc? Do you have any local road racers around you? If so find them and find out who they use for suspension. Then go to that person and work with them.

Traxxion Dynamics

I had Traxxion Dynamics install their AK-20 cartridges in the Marzocchi forks on my base model Multistrada.

They also revalved and resprung the Sach rear shock to match my weight.

Very nice people to deal with....and the results are terrific. Bike feels much more settled, ride is plush, but not too soft.

Check out their website: Motorcycle Suspension by Traxxion Dynamics

The only thing you can do is change spring rate and oil weight/ height. You can not revalve them period set from the factory. You can also talk to david at....see below. He has a 25mm full drop in kits from the Andreani Group that makes a huge difference. You dont have to have the stock caps modified to hold the new stuff. They look just like the stock zokes caps just in gold. Pm me if you need more info or picts

ebrew- is this to lower the Ohlins-equipped 1200 25 mm? If so I am VERY interested- I love my 1200 but at an inch lower it would be perfect!

Just going off what the experts say ?

Motorcycle forks: closed cartridge vs. open cartridge

If they are closed then servicing would mean a new cartridge I'd think ? I am interested in knowing what they are so I can deal with them when the need arises. Seems that my question has raised some thing that not only I am un- knowledgeable about.

I am not an expert but I do hear the terms open and closed cartridge from techs that are. I also know that I have the cartridge kit from FBI and it made a world of differnce. The bike is now more stable and has way less dive when braking.

Call David at FBI is easy to deal with and his prices are very reasonable.

So did you replace the cartridge or did the kit change the valving in the cartridge ? I am not in the US , far away place called Australia , so basically need to know what it is and then chase who can supply . So far I still do not know if the cartridge is open or closed.
