What do you want to do with the bike?
I have had both and they are both great. The SE is a big dirt bike and will take you places a 400+lb bike should not. No wind protection " a few options for that" are on the market. Not many options for bags to carry stuff but people do it all the time. The SE is fine on the road but kills tires if you run dirt tires. Not much fuel in stock tank. I would see no reason to have this bike unless you really use it in the dirt. I sold it to get a smaller DS bike 610TE "100+lb lighter" and a Ktm 300. Untill you drop a bike like this on the trail a few times and have to pick it up you will never understand.

Nice bike Eric!
I am looking at adding an SE to the fleet. The Multi feels like a good sport tourer, but just not the excitement or capability I was looking for. It is handy to load up the bags and take a multi-day trip through the mountains or for going to meetings down town. It will even explore dirt roads and such but the small front wheel and lack of low gearing make it a bit of handfull on rougher trails.
I am hoping with the SE I would keep some of the comfort but be able to handle the Jeep trails I originally intended to do the Multi. I use my KLX for the nasty stuff, 250 lb, not much power but very easy to ride. The SE may end up being too big, and I will have to go for a TE or 690 Enduro, but for some of the rides I have in mind, I think it will be perfect.

The gearing is the one thing I found to be a big problem when I got my MTS to the trails at Rampart.
To me the small front wheel doesn't make much difference until you try to push for a bit more speed and capable tires can be had.
But the gearing really showed a weakness when the trail started getting tight and steep.
I'll keep my bike for a tourer with dirt roads as a bonus.

thanx
Get the adventure not the SE if its going to see a lot of road work. The adventure will do almost as much as the SE and it holds more gas and has wind protection. Plus it will hold bags for long trips. Its just a little harder to work on due to the tanks being in the way. The 610 will cruse right along at 75 no problems and go in the dirt just great. I love the 690 just more $$$$

+1 on the Husky. My 2008 610 TE is a great compliment to my MTS - at least for riding in Colorado.
Eric, we need to get out on a our 610s....

ok, NOT answering your question, but
My Multi was delivered May2010. Love it. Robust backroads bike! And pretty-good on the open highway. Incredible motor! Has been a great scoot with minimal issues from the start. Seems ok on rough/lumpy dirt roads with some moderation.
Had an early model 690E. Great bike. Robust offroad!. Really beefy suspension - great motor. Can bash over big stuff at big speeds. Also great fun on tight, paved backroads (even on the stock MT21s). But after riding primarily open-class street bikes the past 25yrs, "I" found it too light and high-strung at 70mph, even for relatively short runs, and even when using a really good windshield setup.
Rode with some guys around backroads in west Texas for a couple of days while I had my 690, and one of them had a SE. Really good, remote dirt ranch roads, water crossings, bumpy, steep/bumpy, but certainly not single track. And we had to connect those roads with 10-20mile long paved county roads, so provided the gamut. SE is a very bad-ass bike in this environment - bomber, and can bash big stuff at speed almost as well as the lighter 690. Riding next to it those couple of days, my impression was both the SE and rider liked the highway a lot more than I did, and had nearly as much fun in the dirt. Just didn't seem like a medium-range, sport-tourer kinda cycle.

Just got home with an '07 SE, only 5600 miles. Looking forward to summer!!!!!!!!!
I have been looking for awhile. I wanted an ADventure R, but my wife didn't like the 2 up comfort, and she really likes the Multi. Given the rapid decline in resale, I actually got the SE for about what it would have cost to trade the Multi on 990R. Two bikes for the price of 1.
