Multi vs Yamaha Tenere offroad

He won. He and I are going to Colorado this summer and wanted to see how the bikes/tires will hold up in the sh#t. He's a better rider than me, but I'm not bad, he lead the way. The road turned to ruts, then quiclkly to a dirt bike trail. We've all been there at some point, should I turn around, or was that the worst of it? About a mile in I knew I shouldn't be there on a $20k duc. We hit a mud track followed by a some deep sandy whoops and a badly placed tree. I lost the left mirror, hand guard, upper fairing, and my big toe. Zip tied it up and we're back at it. 15 miles later we're done. I went off twice more after the tree, both times in deep silt/sand. It hanlded the steep mx banked turns, hills, rocks, gravel very well. You better eat aaall your wheaties if you plan on picking this bike up off the trail by yourself 3-4 times. Half way in some dirt bikers pulled up wondering what we were doing out there on those bikes. They said the weekend before they had to drive a couple KLR's out for some guys that had to walk out. I wouldn't do it again (unless I was on a dirt bike), but it can be done!

The Tenere is 50 lbs more, but had better tires, better side and hand protection. They have some black utility panels where we have pretty red bits that peel right off. In the end, I'll take mine every day! It was still a good time, a few bolt on parts and she'll be fine. Btw, If anyone has a left mirror, turn sig, handguard, fairing, or shift lever, for sale, let me know!

I'm sorry to hear about your damage and personal injury, (ouch!!!) but....what did you expect? He has a "real" adventure bike, you don't. Stick to pavement and gravel roads and you'll be fine, especially on pavement.

barkbusters , guards , and those new continental trail tyres may have saved you a spill and damage .. but then again you wouldnt have a tale to tell

tks for the post , but you would still need to drop it a further 3,756 times to beat Dr Greg

cheers and happy adventures in Colorado

You can put som GS adventure tires on.. That would probably help. They even make an oversize 120/90-17.
