PCV speed input
Anyone out there who actually has a PCV installed been able to figure out how to provide speed data to the unit?
Thanks.
Long story version:
The PCV takes a single wire input that is expecting a square wave at a varying frequency to interpolate speed. Prior Ducati's used a different speed sensor than the MTS. The MTS uses a hall effect speed sensor that provides rear wheel speed info for speedometer, ABS and DTC purposes. The wiring diagram for ABS/S models show the two wire speed sensor going into the ABS computer, then a single wire identified as speed signal going between the ABS computer and the BBS (black box controller under the seat). I tapped off the speed sensor lead itself (tried both individually), but the PCV didn’t see it, since I suspect it is not the type of signal it needs. On a different note, I contacted SpeedoHealer to find out if they had an application for this bike that doesn't screw up the ABS or DTC and they said their device works fine by tapping into the speed signal wire that goes between the ABS and BBS units. Since I would guess it works similarly, I am thinking that the signal from the sensor is being processed by the ABS unit before going out to the BBS. My bike is a standard with no ABS black box, so the wiring is a bit different from the ABS version wiring diagram I have, with different color wires at some critical places to this application. If anyone has a Standard Model wiring diagram I could “borrow” that would be helpful too.

Need Maintenance Manual
The manual for the standard version is in there as well. Just be ware that the draft version does have a lot of mistakes in it. Its pretty good overall but its not end all be all...

Thanks. I actually ended up finding a standard wiring diagram late today. Unfortunately it shows that the speed sensor lead goes directly into the BBS with no other output. Since I had already tried tapping into this line to no avail, I may be out of luck since I don't have an ocsilloscope to see what is really going on I have an email into Dynojet.

I installed a PCV on my bike and saw no mention of a speed sensor in the directions. Perhaps Dave has revised the setup?

And the speed sensor would be for what?

I have the LCD200 which logs data from the PCV and attached autotune wide band 02 sensors. In order to better analyze the AFR data from on road sessions, it would be very helpful to have speed (and by extrapolation, gear data) so I can narrow my analysis and target my fuel map changes to exactly what I am trying to effect.

The PCV can take in speed to calibrate gear or use the 0-5v input and use the analog input of the gear position sensor on this bike. There is a 3 pin connector under the seat for gear position. Tap into the signal wire of that connector and using software 1.0.6.1 you can choose if you want GEAR to be calibrated from speed or voltage. Choose voltage and you are good to go.

OK, I see this in the software and will try it. Can the PCV then extrapolate the speed (known RPM and Gear) or will I have to calculate that manually?

Are you sure he won't need a resister in there? I ask because I did the same thing for my GPX data logger on my SV which has a 5v GPS and a resister was required or it couldn't tell the difference between a couple of the gears due to how the voltages were spread.
