Clutch

Any one out there with some advice.....

The last two days my clutch has been slipping very badly....not all the time, but intermittently.

It's almost like the lever remains "pulled" in once I have actually released it....like as if a return spring has gone soft and is not pushing the clutch back to release it....

Could it be water has got in somewhere? Bike has been in the rain recently.

Is there an adjustment perhaps? It's a real problem because I almost come to a grinding halt....Bikes only done 3600miles

Appreciate your input!

Hmm, you might want to check with TimOz. I recall him having a similar problem. I believe it was traced to a sticking actuator shaft (the long one that goes through the engine from the clutch servo to the pressure plate bearing).

Oops, I remember now, it wasn't the shaft sticking, it was the piston inside the clutch servo itself. A new servo solved the problem, I believe.

I had exactly this same thing. Also seemed worse in the rain, which I cant explain. no problem pulling the clutch but when releasing it, it would not engage smoothly. Rather, it would slip, then suddenly engage. Very tricky in heavy traffic ( in the stnking rain ). Problem was explained as a sticking piston in the clutch slave cylinder. Mine was replaced under warranty. I understand this is a 'known issue'.
Cheers,
WitC

If you want to wade throught he world's longest thread try here:
My bike tried to kill me today - clutch fail

In short, I have one of the early bikes and my clutch was playing up badly in the wet. It would disengage and then suddenly engage randomly. Nasty. After much stuffing around it turned out the be the slave which I had to replace with a DP upgraded part to get back on the road. If I had time I would have got an Oberon or Evoluzione replacement one instead. Cheaper and probably better engineered.

In any case you symptoms match mine in many ways. My clutch has been faultless since the slave upgrade.

Good luck.

Big thanks

Thanks folks for the advice.

I will probably go to the dealer for a warranty replacement. I didn't realise that the model may have issues with this....

Let's just hope it happens when I get to the dealer.... You know how stupid one feels when standing there complaining and it doesn't do it just at that precise moment.

Thanks also for answering on Xmas day! Hope you all had a good'n!

PS on the plus side wifey bought me the rizoma timing belt cover....I even managed to escape for 20mins to fit it....pure bling just love seeing those cogs and belts spinning around....
