1200 chain guard?

OK. I give up. How the flying, flaming phuk do you get the chain guard off? It sure as hell isn’t as shown on the Carbonworld website.

One bolt is obvious but, there are a couple of other attachment points hidden down in the bowels of the swingarm where you can’t see squat.

I once tried just that.

It seems that one of the bolts needed to release the guard is directly behind the chain itself. I just assumed that you needed to remove the chain before you could get the guard off.

I even PM'd a noted member here re this same issue. He told me that he doesn't remove the guard.

But I'm sure you'll get the correct answer here shortly. I'd love to know that as well.

It's best done with the wheel off. 30 second job.

You may be able to get at it with the chain loosened off, but I think the tyre is the main obstacle.

I handed my carbon guard to my workshop guy to fit along with the new PR3s.

That’s what I was afraid of. Oh well, it can wait for the next tire change.

Thanks.

Yeah, I can't believe they don't make it clear on all those websites that sell them (including Ducati Performance). I guess they just want your money - perhaps they think you might not buy it if you knew it was difficult/impossible to fit!

Yes, the Carbonworld website showed a two-minute install video. More than just a little misleading IMHO.

I’m getting a bit disillusioned with this whole CF thing. When I replaced my Standard with a Sport I thought I’d finish up the remaining CF touches. Started with the CW glue-on front fender. I was impressed with the quality so ordered the heel/heatshield guard. Had to elongate the rear bolt hole with a dremel to get it fitted. Next came a Shiftech long hugger (the CW version wasn’t long enough for my taste). I had to shim the hell out of it to get it to sit level and it still sits about four inches above the tire. To finish up, I ordered the CW chain guard and rear chain guard (the piece that covers the rear of the chain when the possum-scraper is removed). I run sans possum-scraper because:

1: I live in the desert and have little call to ride in the rain and:
2: Removing and re-installing the possum-scraper constitutes about 60% of the total time to adjust the chain. Screw that.

As it turns out however, the CW rear chain guard must also be removed to get to the pinch bolts. So it may go over the back fence to join the possum-scraper too.

Don't write off carbon fibre wholus bolus. From what I can hear, it's the CW stuff that may be the common factor? The few DP things I have fit perfectly.
