Clutch slave cylinder
I dropped into a Ducati dealership today to buy a DP (or equivalent) clutch slave cylinder for my partners new 1200S Touring. She is having a slight problem with the clutch pull in stop-start traffic.
I was surprised to be told that the DP EZ-pull slave cylinder will not fit on a Multi 1200 as they are for dry-clutch bikes. Checking the catalogue and the On-line store gave me the same story
Has anyone successfully installed a DP, STM or any other type of clutch slave cylinder on a Multi 1200 ?
If they do not fit, would it be possible to do the same thing I have done for years with my dry-clutch bikes and take 2 springs out of the clutch assembly.

A few guys on the UK forums have fitted Oberons;
OBERON CLUTCH SLAVE CYLINDER SILVER DUCATI MULTISTRADA | eBay
Not done it on my MTS as I don't have a problem with the clutch, but fitted one to my Aprilia Tuono and it made a big difference.

For that the DP slave cylinder concerns I'm sure that the cylinders are the same for all the Ducati models regardless the clutch type.

Hi OZHoppo,
See post 89 from this thread:
My bike tried to kill me today - clutch fail
I had clutch slave problems and had to replace mine with a DP unit. It seem any DP slave from the watercooled motors will fit. If you ask for a slave for a 1098 or 1198 they will bolt right on. The big dealers often have them in stock in the "Bling" display.

Have you simply bled the clutch? Mine was grabby and would not go into neutral. The fluid was very dark and it had a big air bubble at the top.
My wrench told me that the stock slave cylinder is prone to "sucking in" some air at the bottom, possibly because on the 1200 the slave is very close to a VERY hot exhaust, as is the rear brake master and slave. We bled both the rear brake and clutch and replaced the fluid with Castrol synthetic, which should tolerate the heat better. The clutch now works perfectly and the rear brake is firmer- holding up well after 3000 miles. We'll see...

Hi DrDave,
If the clutch slave has "sucked in air" it has FAILED and is not something that should just be bled to fix. If it does it once it will do it again and the system needs better seals.

I'm keeping an eye on it and the fluid is staying clear and its working fine (so far after 3000 miles) but I think I'm going to go aftermarket just to be sure...

The fluid goes dark because the cylinders are made of alloy and the seals cause a polishing action on the metal as you would get when polishing any alloy with a cloth and polish and it goes black.

If you're sure the slave is leaking...why not warranty it?
