Just got my multi back after open heart surgery

Hi All,
My 2011 touring has just returned home from open heart surgery!
A month or so ago I noticed oil dripping from the rear of the bash plate, took into the dealership got it back a few days later and was told they resealed the oil strainer cover plate, no worries thanks!
On my second short ride I noticed oil dripping from the bash plate again f*@k!
So off I go back to the dealership left it with them get a call a week later to say do you want the good news or the bad news!
The oil is leaking from the two bottom mating parts of the engine casings and we will need to pull the whole motor out and strip it down and rebuild it. WTF its 7 months old and has only 2500 klms on it.
So had no wheels for 4 weeks got them to do the rear brake fix as well which I can say does work I now have a solid pedal with a small amount of travel and a rear brake that pulls you up if you need it to.
The mechanic did a great job with the motor you can't tell its been out and runs smooth.
I also asked the dealer can we put a the heavier rear spring in it while its stripped down only to be told we don't have the tool to compress the spring and its a hassle to pull the whole shock out due to all the wiring, WTF again! take it to a suspension shop they will have a spring compresser tool!
I have sent Ducati an email regarding my concerns and disapointment of poor build quality for a bike that cost $31500 AUD with a response of thanks for your email we will get back to you!!! that was two weeks ago!

Would I buy another Ducati? No Would I recommend a Ducati No
Hopefully won't have any other problems and its too early to sell it would loose a shit load!
Have owned two Mv Agusta's F41000s and the F4 312 with no warranty issues they are Italian!
Just needed to get it off my chest and put it out there when you spend this much money you would expect better.

I had a leak from the bash plate....

IT WAS A BAD OIL FILTER , leaking from the seal ( not the rubber gasket) of the oil filter .
I took the bash plate off cleaned it all up to see where it was coming from , thought it was from the oil strainer cover too...

MAYBE , Sounds like your dealer is WORKING you And Ducati....MAYBE....

Dealer put a new filter on and it was good to go....
Maybe they pulled the motor (unnecessarily???) and did all the work and a new filter and all is good...

They couldn't replace the spring due to not having a compressor tool?

What you might want to do is find another dealer.

Given that every single Ducati motor is run before it's put into a bike, and then the whole bike is put on a dyno and run again to ensure good performance before it ever leaves the factory, I find your dealer's "diagnosis" to be suspect as MTScott suggests. If you really like your dealer and trust them, then maybe yours was "the one that slipped through the cracks", but that combined with the "it's too hard to swap springs" BS?!?! I'd be looking for a new dealer as Oalvarez suggests.....

I noticed the leak after I parked it on my brothers driveway which has an incline, after the visit I noticed the small puddle ,
At home I cleaned everything up and thought the dealer was messy with the first service.
After a couple of rides I noticed the film, cleaned everything up again and suspected the oil screen plate with the liquid gasket seal , or the rubber gasket on the oil filter , Another ride and oil was present , called dealer and trailered it there , called after a couple of hours and they said to pick it up ,
No charge and they said Oil Filter ...

I said Rubber gasket and then they said the metal seal on the filter like a tin can...
It was hard to see exactly where it was coming from , easier to see while on the lift , with some young eyes and good light .

NOT the dealer where I bought the bike from...

If my bike needed the engine out I would have been there to witness what was the problem , during the surgery , sos I could get a first hand look at the problem ,

They held it for a week before they can look at a "New Bike Problem"

You would think a good dealer would have an opening for "Emergencies" like flat tires etc, and quick fixes...

Hope it is running Perfect now ,

I took the bash plates off to check where the oil was coming from with the first leak, it was the oil screen cover plate with the 3 bond seal leaking.
I really hope they weren't "working" me or really Ducati as I was away on business at the time they pulled it down.
As I mentioned I wont be buying another Ducati and definetly another bike from this dealer, the manager couldn't even come up with a t-shirt as a goodwill gesture for the inconvenience.
The spring issue is what really worried me, were they being lazy? the bike was stripped down surely would have been the oppurtune time to swap the spring!

I don't understand some of these dealer...

I bought 3 ducs from dealer...He gave me and still gives me stuff for free...
big discounts...I get a XX% off coupon every year on my birthday...

then I also know another local dealer that wont let its sales people give away a ducati hat with a $20K bike...this dealership has lost it's top sales people because of crap like that...

BTW, my dealer is Ducati Newport Beach...

When a bike is left for any length of time ,Some sort of Paperwork is in order...
I certainly would be in contact at least with the service manager or the Owner , if it was in their possession for over a couple of days...

There are lots of car dealerships around here that will never get another penny from me,
AND they get crap reviews whenever I get the chance to tell anyone who will listen...

Ducatis local networks (Area Reps ) should be on top of this sort of thing ,

After reading the other posts, this part makes me start thinking. Hmmm, you've been out of town, and now can't even tell the engine has been out...
