1200 Sidestand strength
My partner just bought herself a 1200S Touring and simply loves it. I think the only way I am going to get the smile off her face is to hit her with a cricket bat. *grin*
We are both mid-50's and around 5'10". While I can get aboard by taking a running jump at the bike, she prefers something a little more elegant.
I have suggested to her that she puts the bike on the centre stand and climb aboard using the foot pegs, but I was wondering if she might also be able to use the foot peg while the bike is on the side-stand (only while parked on hard ground of course).
Your thoughts on the strength of the centre stand would be appreciated.

Center stand - no problem.
But, don't put ANY additional weight on the side stand. The side stand is bolted to the engine case and it doesn't take much to break the aluminum case.
Do not sit on the bike on the side stand or climb on the bike at all...
good luck.

+1.
The sidestand is bolted to the cases and overstressing this would crack the cases. All very bad. Added to this, the manual says this:
Quote:
Warning
Do not sit on the motorcycle when it is supported on
the side stand.

If you had an issue then your warranty will be non-existant. The centrestand works very well and is very easy to get the bike on. Hopefully your partner has enough weight to rock the bike off the centrestand while seated.

Thanks for the advice guys. I guess I should have read the manual a bit more thoroughly.

If I'm feeling lazy, I sometimes throw a leg from the right hand foot peg... I was also concerned about putting more weight on the side stand, so mounting from the right hand peg (opposite side to the side stand) actually takes some weight off the stand, but you need to make sure there's no incline basing the bike to that side, and that you keep your weight centered.
Of course, notwithstanding the warning in the manual!
(And I remember a recent recall in Australia on the Diavel side stand. With so much focus on racing, I guess Ducati are accustomed to paddock stands, then add a side stand as an afterthought!)

I usually first stand on the left footpeg and while standing on that left footpeg throwing my right leg over, all this with bike on sidestand.
Should this for now on be considered als a "NoNo" for me and others ?
Some of the MTS riders don't have centrestands of have dismounted then for ground clearance, especially for the shorter people it will be funny to see them get up on the bike
Or is this the same type of warning like the max load of the suitcases or the max speed when suitcases mounted ?

Us short stubby types grab our right knee and pull it up and in towards chest , to get the required height to push foot over the seat...
Hey do what you got to do to keep from scuffing the seat up.
On My Hyper my buddy showed me how to spin the bike around by putting all the weight on the sidestand as a pivot and just turn it around , I showed him how the sidestand was not very beefy, and I got an apology...
Good idea to check the tightness of the sidestand bolt too...

Don't know if I'd want to be the one to find out...
