Top case questions...again

I've read various threads on top cases out there and am looking for some real world feedback.

I want a top case for my commutes as it would work better than my cortech soft bag. My 17" work laptop won't fit in the side panniers so a top case is my only option...I don't do backpacks anymore

I've looked at the DP top case, Coocase S48 and Shad SH48. Anyone have any realworld feedback on the Coocase or Shad?

What other options are out there that don't look like an ammo can?

Givi also fits- they use the same mounting point system. I have the V46 and it's about the same size as the DP (and half the price...)

If you haven't bought the rack yet, I'd highly recommend the Bang/Dynamic rack- extremely strong, looks MUCH better than the Givi/DP, and cheaper.

I had the same problem, was tired of using a backpack to commute my laptop and lunch back and forth to work.

I got a Givi E360 and installed an Admore LED light kit. I picked the 360 because it has a little lower profile, is black matte, and the reflector strip is clean-looking. I now use an REI messenger bag that holds the laptop and lunch, and there is still room for the bike cover, extra gloves, etc. One helmet will fit in it, but that's not how I use it.

The Admore kit works great, I have running, brake, and blinkers lights in the reflector strip at about eye level for car drivers.

I also used the SW Motech mounting plate.

I had an ordeal getting the SW Motech plate. The first one was sent without the mounting holes cut for countersunk screws. The second one has the countersunk cuts but was done in the Twisted Throttle basement. They finally sent be a proper factory plate and told me to keep the other plates. All that being said, I have 2 extra plates, sans mounting hardware. If you go with the Givi I will give you one of them if you pay shipping. You will need to find the mounting hardware somewhere, I can't remember which hardware came with the SW Motech mount vs the adapter plate, you can probably figure it out.

Let me know if you are interested (or anyone else for the matter).

Thanks
Rich in PLacitas

If you want to spend some money, the touratech 25L top case is excellent for commuting and weekend trips.

i love my DP topcase. it's huge, and uses the same key as the seat ( and side cases ).

I have the DP top case and think it's great but I don't always need that much room so I bought a Kriega 20 tailpack - it fits a days worth of work clothes and my 17" Mac. It's about $100, low profile and is easy to take on and off and acts like a messenger bag off the bike.
