KTM SMT or Multistrada?
Hello everyone!
I've been reading the forum a while because I have a dilemma: My last bike was a 1300 FJR, which will not only drag the footpeg if the hinges that join these footpeg with the bike, so I decided to find a bike that is better suited to my way of riding, so I got to choose 2 bikes, the Multistrada and the SMT.
Use the bike every day to move around the city, and the weekend rides with friends I went out to go where no police and roads with many curves, these rides last about 400 to 600 km. We also travel 4 or 5 days once or twice a year, usually to Argentina. I also do day trips with my wife, about 250 to 350 km pace but not so cheerful, and sometimes we have also traveled together for several days in Argentina.
Why a Multistrada? Why not? Why prefer it on the SMT?

If you ride them both, you will answer your own question.

I tested both, but just a short rides, and both are greats bikes. Now I'm looking for theirs owners experiences with those bikes. I'm sure I will be happy with both, the SMT is cheaper and less power, more simplicity, the Multi haver more power, more price and all the electronics, but onboard both are very similar.

I had a multi 1100s. the older model. I have owned all sorts of ducatis. Monsters, sps superbikes (2 of em) Super sports and the MTS.
The MTS even though the one I had only had around 90 hp, was the best motocycle I have ever owned. the only reason I dont have it is because some twit. pulled out on be and smashed up my muched loved Multi.
With the insurance money, I bought a KTM adventure to try somthing a little different . I know its not the same bike but close.
I and ordering a pikes peak multi just after santa clause comes.
they are the most easiest, fun, powerfull and adjustable bikes I have ever ridden! I dont even own one yet.
good luck with your decision.

Ideally you would have both, but if forced to choose one, I would probably go the KTM, as I too like simplicity, with more cash available for options.

you are going to get a biased opinion here however if you have the $, there is no better cruiser/sport bike than the multistrada. if you spend more time on the bike other than a test ride, you will know what I mean. The 1198 engine is an absolute beast that no other adventure bike will come close to.
good luck!

If peaceful co-existance on the bike means anything to you, your wife will NOT be happy with the accomodations on the SMT.
My wife finds the Multi quite fine for 5 hour rides.
Me too!

If you plan on doing your own maintenance (like I was) the SMT looks to be quite a bit easier to access.
