ducati branded gps
How is this unit? Don't care about the color or ducati logo on it. Just wondering what Garmin model it is and how the mounting hardware is. Thanx. Might be able to pick one up at a good price

Ducati GPS
I believe it is a Garmin 510 with a bluetooth option. I have one on my Multi and it works fine.
You may have to check with the dealer about a map upgrade as the Garmin map upgrade will wipe out all the Ducati dealer information on it.

It appears to be the same as the Garmin Nuvi 550/Zumo 220
The two models appear to be essentially the same physically, both waterproof, but the Zumo is motorcycle specific, with MC mount and hard wired 12v power adapter (plus a car windscreen mount and lighter plug), as well as bike specific software that has larger "glove friendly" icons and keyboard buttons.
Not sure if the Ducati software is based on the Nuvi or Zumo software? I recall that it has a Nuvi logo on it but the power options look like they are from the Zumo.
(I have the Zumo 220)
Cheers.

The unit will get the job done. Turn by turn, find closest gas, hotel, and the like. Not all the features that some newer models have though. Unit is very water resistant, has Bluetooth capability.
It is a Garmin Nuvi 510 which is the European model. Comes preloaded with European maps. If the unit you are purchasing has been intended for sale in The United States is should have a North America NT SD card included. The card may be somewhat outdated and if you need the most current mapping will require a new card at additional expense.
The mounting hardware is very good IMO with the exception that the unit itself is not locked into its cradle. If you are in an unsecured area you may want to remove the unit from its cradle and lock it in a case or put the unit in your pocket.
Only buyers remorse that I have is that I think it is a bit more expensive (considering I paid 10% off retail) than what it is worth.
It is a nice piece of kit...... If the price is right.

Multistrada GPS
I bought a Garmin Nuvi 550 this summer for low $200's at GPScity.com. Works fine so far, though it took me a while to get used the menu. Apparently not motorcycle-specific but it is waterproof. I don't know whether the unit will suffer from handlbar vibrations, but nevertheless I did mount it to the left side of my bars with the ram mount. It seems to go for about 4 hours on a charge (claimed 8 hrs) and comes with lighter adapter. I use it in my car also.
Note that traffic-enabled guidances requires purchase of a new cigarette lighter cord, which contains the traffic receiver. Consquently, you can't have traffic data on the bike unless you have a hard-wire set up.
Every now and then when i turn the unit on cold, it seems to take a while to find satellites, but it's never been a problem.

The lockable Touratech mount for the Zumo 220 should fit the Ducati GPS From what I've seen, as it's physically the same unit. You will need the Touratech handlebar mount for 1200 Multi as well as the lockable mount. The handlebar mount comes worth replacement handlebar bolts with threaded heads to take two angles brackets and the 12mm mounting bar for the GPS mount.
Your GPS is then secured inside the spring loaded metal cage with a key lock, so you don't have to worry about it being lifted while away from your bike, or have to keep plugging and unplugging each time you leave your bike. (it wouldn't stop a determined thief with tools and enough time, but then again, nothing will stop the determined thief!)
Cheers.

The Ducati GPS is a Garmin nuvi 510. Not a 550. Not anything else.
The 510 was a Europe-only model aimed at scooter riders. It has mono Bluetooth and is water-resistant. In many ways it's similar to the US 550 model which lacks Bluetooth.
The head unit is, frankly, quite outdated and was on the day they hit the market. What makes it particularly nice is the fantastically good mounting kit which is not available by itself. There are several other mount options which people quite like but in my opinion they all fall a bit short.
Personally, I like my Ducati nav unit just fine. It completely meets my motorcycle navigation needs. For most, I'd say it's overpriced and I suspect many riders would be happier with a non-Ducati-branded unit with an aftermarket mount.

Ducati GPS....
For the same money you can get a much better motorcycle specific GPS. For a little more the Garmin Zumo 665 is outstanding. I got mine a year ago on Amazon and you should be able to pick one up today for less. Highly recommended.
