Cool What Can I expect?

I'm thinking about the possibility of getting a 2012 Multi. But, in visiting here and a few other forums I'm getting cold feet, I'm an experienced BMW rider currently on a 2009 R1200RT, kind of boring, came from the GS world, 2001, 2006.

I test road the multi about 6 months ago and was feeling like I just got a new young girl friend, who's crazy about older men! But, I keep reading these horror stories about the multis problems, Rear brakes, Swollen gas tanks, Twitchy throttle. I think it would be good and fair to new potential riders to get the real skinny in regards as to what you can really expect. I'm thinking about a 2012.

Chime in.

All bikes have problems! People with problems post prolifically on forums. The MTS is no exception. There are thousands of MTS riders out there with huge smiles on their faces. Despite having problems with my own MTS, I'm one of them.

I've toured a lot of miles on Ducatis and I've never enjoyed riding more than I do now with my MTS 1200s. It's an incredible machine.

Check out the recent thread called Experienced Owners Multistrada Poll.

You will see that despite the few issues that get lots of attention, the overwhelming opinion is that the Multi still exceeds expectations. There are a lot of comments there that put things in perspective. Pretty much everyone who posted on that thread said they'd buy again if they were given a choice.

It's an awesome bike... That feeling you had on your test ride that was like a new young girlfriend... Well, the sex just keeps getting better!

Cheers.

As with any NEW vehicle it is the dealer that can make or break the experience...
I bought from one dealer far away and have it serviced near by...
the servicing dealer is making sure things are taken care of.
New rear brake upgrade , along with a computer flash and ALL IS GOOD..
You get some dealer or shop that does not know what they are doing , or didn't get the proper way to set things up, and it will not run as good as the guy who knows what they are doing.

I couldn't be happier with the way the Bike preforms , and rides,

Just make sure the service department KNOWS what they are doing...

Don't let any ham fisted MONKEY work on it...
It is your bike not theirs,
Make sure you know what they plan to do on it , before letting them mess with it...

A GREAT BIKE , AMAZING
Don't let anyone FU@K it up...

I'm gonna echo the other guys, it is a fantastic machine and certainly everything that I had hoped it would be. I would have the same doubts as you about purchasing any new vehicle if I went solely with the info I got off of forums. In my mind, forums discuss three basic things: farkles, rides and bike problems.

In Motorrad magazine their longtest BMW is by far the worst bike they ever tested. Failure after failure. They even joked that it spend as much time on a trailer as on the road.

I have read that Ducati claims that the number of guarantee claims on the Multi1200 is the lowest they ever had on any model.

No bike is perfect but for some reason Ducati seems to be forever be associated with bad quality.

I have had Ducatis since 94. No big problems at all.

Picked up my Multisstrada 1200 S Touring from Moto Corsain Portland, OR on October 11, 2011. Great bike, no issues in 2,000 miles.

Out riding, traded bikes with a GS riding buddy. After 30 minutes I wanted off the GS and he didn't want to give the Multistrada back. His GS is up for sale.

I wouldn't be afraid. knock on wood, but at 9k miles, my only roadside delay was a punctured tire. I have had some warranty work done at the maintenance intervals, but that isn't too big of a deal to me. (The dealership had maintenance and warranty taken care of in one day).

These are excellent sport tourers in my opinion.

I've lots of miles on BMWs and Ducatis. MTS 1200 is my favorite by far. Mine has a minor low rpm fueling niggle around 3200 rpm, but I just easily ride around that area. Hoping that someone will provide a fix, but it's really not a big deal to me.
