6mm from happiness

I decided to take advantage of what was probably the last warm, comfortable day for riding we'll have here in Connecticut for awhile. About 25 miles from home while enjoying some of the local twisty roads, my shift lever felt like it disappeared as I was kicking down to a lower gear as I approached a stop sign.
It turned out that the little 6mm bolt that attaches the shift linkage to the shift arm on the transmission had fallen off.
It's amazing how losing one little bolt can change your afternoon from care free riding, to an exercise in problem solving. I had some zip ties with me so I reattached the shift linkage with a couple of those. It didn't work great, but it worked well enough to make a few shifts, so I put the bike in third gear and rode it home. No more spirited riding for the day, but no big deal either.
I guess I'm off to the hardware store tomorrow for a new bolt and fresh bottle of Loctite.

Mine fell off on my test ride and I had to ride it back to the dealer in 6th! Luckily it was in Modesto on 132, so only one light to get back to the dealer. They put one back on and tocktite and I haven't had a problem in >12K miles.

:-)
