2012 Multi 1200 s vs Multi 1200 ABS
Hi everyone,
its one of those questions again. I've been bitten by the upgrade bug again and was looking into to trading my 09 Monster 1100 S for a new Multi 1200. I need one bike that does i all and hope this is it. I have read and watched pretty much every review available online and feel this bike would fit my needs. since most reviews surround the multi s models i was wondering if someone would be able to tell me a bit about their experience with the base ABS model. The dealer has a new 1200 ABS with bags for $5k less than the 1200S model and i'm wondering if the 1200S with the electronic Ohlins is worth the extra 5k? how exiting is the S model compared to the ABS model? also my last question is is this a good bike to go 2up? i know the manufaturer says it is but how is it in the real world?
thanks for answering these repetitive questions.
good day.

I have the S. Go for it. Magic. For real. I am sure the the standard is great but the S is awesome. I bought my S early may 2010, it still amazes me.

If you're not too worried about resale value (and tend to keep your bikes) I'd say get the ABS. I would if I had to do it again. You can get suspension custom set for you with valving, cartridges, springs, etc... for about $2-3K and have a better handling bike with no electronics to worry about.

Don't forget you also get heated grips, side cases, and a center stand for the bump in price. Add those in and the s is a pretty good deal.

I agree with yes and don't agree with no.
The whole purpose of this Ducati Multistrada creation is all the electronics that went into the design and build of this bike.
You are buying and maybe reselling that whole intended package.
If you never want to trade it in....forget the s version. I still wouldn't!
As to the "electronics worry" of the full designed Multi package?
I'll offer this: if you were about to go into the hospital for surgery, never.....ever......go online beforehand to ask for advice re that surgery!

+1 on this. The bags are around to $1,600 purchase. Not sure about the center stand(great for changing the rear tire or chain maintenance) and heated grips(goes w/o saying). But they are well worth the purchase value as a whole. I am lucky enough to have had no issues with my electronics on an early 2011 with 10k miles on er.

yep....
Did just this for 1000's less and it works perfect. Let me know if you want details as I tried it all.

You can buy much better quality after market bags for a lot less than $1600, like maybe half that for a set of Trax. A center stand is $170 bucks at Twisted Throttle.
I have a standard non ABS model and absolutely love it. I bought it in June and have put about 5K miles on it since then. the bike is an absolute pleasure to ride. I'm sure that if I had purchased an "S" I would love that too, but at this point I feel like the $5 grand I saved was the better decision for me, and the bike still puts a huge smile on my face every time I ride it.
