MTS1200 Exhaust Guard Question

Someone pointed out to me today that my exhaust guard gets purple after a ride. That same someone had mentioned that supposedly this is a know flaw of the MTS1200 and might be a warranty issue.

Question - does anyone get the same and has anyone tried a warranty replacement of this part?

Thanks,

Sideout.

P.S. To clarify what I am talking about is item no 31 in the diagram attached.

Mine's black.
How can I get a purple one?

Sorry, couldn't resist; first I've heard of this "issue".

Mine's not purple either, but it's in a box with the rest of the stock exhaust. Keeping it in a box seems to have cured the problem.

Bought mine with 6K and the exhaust shield was brown - almost a rusty color - and so I replaced it with a carbon piece from CarbonWorld. Looks much better and the heat is less of an issue.

Robb,

Do you happen to have a pic to share? Wondering what it'd look like on an black S Touring like mine with no other carbon bits?

Thanks.

Willie, I have been thinking about this solution also . My issues with it are:

1. Expensive
2. Too loud for my liking, I like the stock sound alright
3. Possible melting of the license plate holder.

Sideout, nice meeting you yesterday and a fun day of riding it was.

As for the exhaust canister cover, I would ask (perfectly sensible) if you could get it warrantied/replaced, but my feeling is that the next one would turn purple/brown just like yours and my other riding friends have. If you don't care about its looks, then no biggie i suppose, but to me they look god awful in that color. I did like one of the other posters suggested and replaced the piece with a carbon one, but my bike was a Sport model (carbon) so it seemed to mesh well with the rest of the carbon bits.

Take good care,

yes , it does go that brownie, purply , rusty colour very quickly. BUT thats all it does . there will be no further deterioration and after a short while you wont notice it.

Same here. Awesome ride and pleasure to meet you.

You are right. It may mesh better with a Sport model.

I did some digging. Doesn't look like there's a Ducati made carbon fiber cover. Only 3rd party. So highly unlikely any dealer would go for replacing stock with a 3rd party carbon one at their own expense.

I'll probably play it by ear and see how badly it deteriorates.

Only about $135 USD at carbonworld.de, so a pretty nice upgrade for not too much money.
