MTS 1200: Tank Protector and Tank Grip Dilemma (What to use?)
New MTS owner here with questions.
TANK PROTECTOR
With the curvature of the tank, I have yet to find a tank protector that makes good sense and looks good. So I must be asking others here "which is the less of the evils." I am tempted to just go without as it is far less damage prone than my 848. I have found one carbon protector, and the other option of going to a carbon gas tank cover as a replacement for the stock plastic cover. Any suggestions?
TANK GRIP
I usually hate these, and on the 848/1098/1198 I have found the plastic gas cover to be just fine without. But the MTS is a different material, and seems prone to scratches from the knee. Photos show a variety of options, but you experience (good or bad) is valuable.

I haven't had any problems with the tank getting scratched. Since most of the riding is done upright, even tucking-in at speeds and around curves won't make contact with the tank. So, it's just a matter of aesthetics and definitely not a necessity, in my opinion. I like the DP CF cover for this option for looks alone.
CF fuel tank cover
Most common options
DP CF tank protector
DP Clear tank protector
Tank grip... this I think is necessary and was looking for one myself. I noticed scratch marks and wear where the inner thigh/knee would make contact on the bottom tank panel. No gouges, just wear on the paint(clear coat) so it's a bit dull. The DP CF tank grip is the one I like.

I've both installed, and though they're not strictly necessary to protect from scratches, I find the DP tank protector potentially more effective, as the vertical surface is more prone to come in contact with a jacket zipper or something dropped.
The tank grips are mostly for posing.

I've used Tankslapper clear protective film on my monster and on my multi with good results. The curves on the multi's tank make installation a little challenging but patience and using a heat gun as they recommend resulted in a bubble free perfect install for me. It is removable/re-usable and cheap.

I've always thought tank protectors made about as much sense as keeping the plastic on your couch. They're as unattractive as a tatted antimacassar, as well.

That is the nice thing about the tankslappper film, it is virtually invisible when installed properly.
Whenever a post expands my vocabulary (in a good way), I am impressed. "Antimacassar" - while I certainly experienced them at my grandma's house years ago, I had never heard of the word before and had to look it up

I use the TechSpec grips on mine. I like it better than some of the other options as its removable/reusable if you want to relocate it and does a good job keep you from sliding forward on hard stops.
