Cost of 15K-mile service?
For those of who that have had this service performed, would you mind sharing the cost? I have heard fairly widely-varying amounts.
My own dealer (whom I beginning to think does not like Ducatis, although he likes to sell them) quotes over $1,000. This seems a little high, but given the difficulty in accessing the bike (as we've been discussing) I guess that's the reality.
The reason I'm interested is all this factors in to my decisions on whether to keep the bike, buy a service contract, etc., since it looks like it won't be a DIY situation.
Thanks for any information; feel free to PM me if you feel you've been taken (like I'm starting to feel ;-)
Maybe all I need is one good ride to get back in a good mood (started on one of my favorite rides last Saturday but got whipped by the cold and turned back).

My dealer wants $1200 to do the 15K service on my 848...
said about < $500 in parts and 6-7hrs in labor...
not sure if the MTS1200 is more or less...

I've been quoted 1k maybe a little more depending on how much time the labor involves.

Doc,
One tidbit I was told by my dealer is the 15k service cost varies a fair amount due to the shims. If they check the valves and they're in spec (don't need to change shims), the cost is < $1k. If they need to re-shim, the cost is > $1k. This makes sense as the shims cost $$$ (shim kit from Ducati is $300! ) and it takes more time.
Another tidbit that I was told was on average, you will likely need different shims at the first 15k service, but likely won't need any at the 30k service, then you'll need to re-shim again at the 45k mark, etc. So, on average, every other valve service is < $1k.
I avg about 10k miles/yr, so I figure the Duc will cost me around $1300/1.5yrs, or approx. $870/yr if I have the dealer do all the work (including the 7.5k mile service at approx. $300). If I do the 7.5k mile service myself, that goes down to approx. $670/yr. Looking through my receipts from 20k miles of BMW R1200GS ownership, my Duc will cost the same to maintain (again assuming the dealers do all the work).
I hope some of that helps in your decision-making.

hi Doc
Ducati have a recommended labour charge i believe of 6 hours. It includes change of belt as well as check valve. As someone else said expect that labour cost to go up a little bit if valves need adjustment , but not too much. my valves were fine at the 24,000 ( 15,000 mile ) service.
