Sons shopping for a monster, have dumb newbie question
Embarassing question.... Whats the difference between an s4r and an s4rs model? 916 motor and/or 996 motors? Thanks for entertaining my ignorance
Hes probably getting a monster or hyper w the 1100 air cooled motor, because of the 'funner' powerband for realistic street riding. Nevertheless, the question came up and i honestly didnt know...

The "S" is better suspension and Ohlins, maybe some carbon parts added also depending on the model. More experienced people will be along.

996 vs 998 the motor difference, then the suspension.

Hello
The year of manufacture matters. There are "S4R" 998 models, usually (correctly) identified as S4R-T for Testa. Then there are S4RS models which are Testa motors (next generation) with Ohlins suspension as well.
I believe the S4R-T models were made in 2007-08, so any 07/08 S4R will have the Testa motor.
That may not be perfect, but I hope it's close.
I only know that much because I'm putting together a S4R (996) for one of my sons, and a S4RS for myself. I'm using a bunch of spare ST4S (996) parts on the son's bike.
