06-08 S2R 1000 vs 09 M1100 ????
I did comparison on Ducati USA website and seems the bikes are absolutely the same except for:
09's got bigger engine, +5 units of torque, lighter weight, longer wheelbase, different rake, larger tank, of course different looks, and more features on instrument panel
are there any other differences?
Also, listed features/specs on the website dont have much description so I think in reality there can be more differences in component quality or tech generations...
finally, how about handling and overall motorcyle experiences between these two generations? what did you find different between them?
thanks.

The motors are both rated at 94hp, but on a dyno the 1100 does have a significant advantage in hp. Dave at Ducati Seattle had a composite dyno of 1000/1100 DS motors showing the differences.
The M1100 is lighter, has better brake feel, and feels more planted. It just feels less nervous to me. The S2R has underseat storage and a more "classic" look. Both take bar risers readily, on the S2R the passenger pegs come off for a racey solo look if desired.
Probably the largest difference is ergonomics. The M1100 has a shorter reach to bars. Basically you sit closer to the bars for a less "italian" riding position. On either bike you can buy the seat of off the smallest contemporary model to get an inch or two closer to the ground if needed.

06-08 S2R 1000 vs 09 M1100
Hey Georgere, I'm your man for this catagory ;-) I went from an 07 S2R1000 (just saw your other thread) which I loved. I had the Arrow slipons and fatduc and of course dry clutch goodies. I currently own and LOVE EVEN MORE and 09 M1100s. It is definitely more powerful in the butt dyno and handles better in my opinion. You feal like you are sitting over the front end quite a bit more than the S2R1K. I think the M1100 is more comfortable, and I have modded it a lot more (bolt on stuff) it is a MONSTER after all they were made to be modded ;-) I have HMF slip on and the DP ECU, I will say mine ran great right out of the box (I did not have as many issues as a lot have) It has stalled twic in 13K miles and both times were during break in and before exhaust and ECU.
Any specific ?? feel free to email me @ scooterd145 at yahoo would be happy to comment further. Most of the guys I ride with are wither on 600 sport bikes so can relate some info around that too.
Scott

M1100
I have a 2010 1100. I will not be keeping it as I have found that the bike feels very top heavy.

Beats the heck out of me, but then I got rid of the stock exhaust pretty early...
The handling on the 1100in both forms is very light in any case... Dang near too light as I have a steering damper (though not fitted yet)...
Wish you lived a bit closer. If you're buying, you could have the one I'm selling.
shipping through Uship or Freightcenter are both fairly reasonable though...

top heavy
What I am implying is that there is a ton of weight above the motor. The tank, the abs and air box balance above the motor. For a street rider it will not be an issue. Sit on the bike and balance it between your legs and you will see what I am talking about.

ok, interesting point but arent 99% of bikes like this... do you know if s2r is more weight balanced (meaning weight is more balanced top to bottom)?

If anything the false tank of of the 1100 sits lower than the S2R tank since some of it is under the seat.
I have no idea where the top heavy feel idea would come from. Maybe that is coming from someone used to riding bikes that sit lower?
I have never felt that the bike was anything but light and neutral. There really isnt any weight north of the vertical cylinder.

All Ducat have a relatively high CG. To avoid that top heavy feel it's best to keep them moving and leaned over as far as possible.
