Questions on a 09 696 im looking to buy.
Hey guys, there's a 2009 Monster 696 I have my eye on and i talked with the owner and he was telling me that "the shaft where the front sprocket is needs to be replaced soon. Its about as thick as a piece of paper. Its ride-able but it will need to be replaced soon."
He doesn't know the actual name for the part so hopefully u all can help me out. The dealership he went to quoted him 1,300 for the repair.
The guy says the bike rides great, it has 4,400 miles. It was dropped by the first owner and he bought it like that and replaced everything and it looks like nothing ever happened. IT HAS A CLEAN TITLE.
He has these upgrades on it:
CRG bar end mirrors
Aluminum rear sprocket
new better chain
Woodcraft adjustable rear set footpegs
The most important question... What do you think is a fair price for the bike how it is?
Any feedback is greatly appreciated!

Keep looking ! You should be able to find a low mile 09 that is in near perfect condition & I would say for around 5K with some mods.. Not sure what part your talking about but the counter shaft should not need to be replaced even at 30,000 miles much less 4000. I'm kinda thinking that bike may have been stunted due to the front sprocket problem & the new alum rear. For pricing just do your home work ebay & craigslist will give you the best idea on what a exclent condition 09 will go for. I've been buying used bikes for over 30 years and my advice is stay away from that bike !

Thanks Link, what your saying makes sense. Now im back to square one lol. I've been search craigslist for weeks already and every monster i find locally are way over priced if your saying an 09 should be about 5k. I was looking at two 03' 620 for 3.5k, another 00' 750 for 4k. Most of the 09's i see are like 6.5-7k.
The 09 i was talking about seems to be owned by an older man when i spoke with him on the phone. He was asking for 5,000 and he was telling me how he has been without a job for a while and really needed the cash. So i doubt he stunted it. But you never know i guess...

Wow your right on the price. I just checked out a few and it looks like there going for around 6.5k-7K which surprises me. I picked up mine 2.5 years ago & it had 800 miles on it for 7.5 so I thought the price now would be much lower. Even at 6.5K for a nice low mile bike that you knew the histroy on would be better buy the a 5k bike with problems. Good luck with your search.

Yea your right, especially since i dont have money to be throwing around on repairs..
The only other bike i can find within my price range is a 2003 620 monster. He's asking 3500, he told me the price was firm.
12,000 miles
brand new back tire, chain and sprockets
Recent oil and plugs change.
Short tail with integrated lights
Minor dents on the tank.
What do you think?

Well, I rode the 620, 695 & 696 and decided the 696 was worth the extra cash. But if your on a budget spend your max on a bike that you enjoy, maybe ride an Suzuki SV you can pick up those much cheaper then the Ducs. and pretty good bang for buck. The 04 & up are they way to go on the SV. Maybe start another thread on the 620 & ask some questions I don't know much about the 620,695.
Good Luck
