M1100 surging

My wifes 2008 M1100 started surging at the track the other day. It started iddling at around 3000-4000 rpm and then will drop down to the normal 1250-1300 range. And sometimes when she comes back in after being on the track it repeatedly surges like she is blipping the throttle.

I checked throttle cable for play and it is a little tight, but the bike can idle at 1250 rpm, so I don''t think thats it.

She has the termi's, ecu, and air filter. Help would be very much appreciated

Issue resolved

I started riding her Monster to work for a couple of days and the problem slowly disappeared and no there is no problem.

After thinking about it we did use someone elses gas at the track, which was supposedly higher octane, he was running it in his sportsbike and he's a friend so I didn't worry about it, but perhaps it has something to do with that.

I also added a fuel injector cleaner to a tank of gas and have been burning in through that, and so far it looks like the problem has rectified itself.

Mine needs a new ecu. Not happy got the ecu for full termis and it stuffed up out of warranty.

it seems that lots of Monsters affected by this problem from what i read online. OP's problem might have been just gas but like I said I've seen many threads about Monster's engine surging issues

I'm not an expert by any means, but it sounds like the timing advance is being triggered. It sounds like perhaps the fuel additives are the variable that could have caused this.
