S4RS owners , please help!
Hi All,
good news is that my wife says i can buy a new bike! i would have bought one anyway, but happy wife happy life!
I currently own a KTM 990 adventure which i was going to trade for a new Multistrata sport. but now im thinking a little different
I was going to trade my KTM and spend an extra 15k for the deal. But.......
if i spend the 15k on a good used S4Rs, i can keep the KTM!!!! wow , 2 bikes in my shed!!
i have owned 2 monsters in the past. I had a 900s model back in the 90s, and i bought a new S4r when they first came out. It was a great bike until i crashed it.
My question is, How much better is the S4Rs than the 996 S4R?? it looks good on paper, but seeing that Ducati dont make them anymore, I cant test ride one.
I know the new multi is a great bike, but i still have a thing for monsters.
Here in Australia , they cost around 23k when new for the S4Rs. I can get one loaded with about every extra in the book including FULL system, tones of carbon and with only 5000km (around 3000 miles) for 15k
Is the S4RS way better than the S4R? what would you do, New multi or used S4RS?
Im just picking other ducati riders brains as we mostly think alike!!
thanks
Dan

I'd have to look to check, but.....if memory serves, the RS got Ohlins suspension as well whereas the R had stuff similar to what was on the base superbikes.

Ok I'll Bite, here were my selling points on the S4RS:
999 Motor and 130HP
They will never make another water cooled Monster
Almost every trick part they made is on the bike
The Ohlins suspension is top of the line
The Brembo brakes are amazing
The twin exhaust termi system is a must
To me it's like riding a dirt bike on steroids

ditto - I ride with a friend who has a 2005 S4R and I've got an 07 S4RS - while mine is techincally faster/better the S4R is still a great ride and it has a metal tank -

I had an S4RS up until March this year when I traded it for an 848evo. It was a fantastic bike to ride. Heaps of power and the handling was great. A mate of mine has a 996 S4R. Although both bikes felt similar to ride my S4RS did feel a lot more lively - especially in the mid range. I sometimes wish I could have kept both bikes.

Congrats
I regretted selling my '08 S4RS Tricolore.
Here are some key differences between the 2 bikes.
SR4, which uses a 996 desmoquattro moto - The S4Rs uses the 998 testasretta motor with more power.
S4R has a Showa front end and axial brakes...S4RS has Ohlins and radial brakes. S4R has open-loop ECU, S4Rs has closed loop ECU with O2 sensor and idle air servo.
S4R has the traditional 5-spoke wheels, S4Rs has lighter magnesium Marchesini 10-spoke wheels.
