Stories that people tell...

Fiction: 2011 Ducati Monster 796 ABS 1866 Miles - Salvage Title
Facts: this bike was purchased at a Crashedtoys auction a few weeks ago.

How can anyone back into a motorcycle, cracking its engine casing, without pushing the bike to the ground?

Interesting, if the insurance company "salvaged" the bike, wouldn't that mean they paid him for it (so he has his needed X-mas funds) and the insurance company would be selling the bike, not the original owner, unless he bought it back from them, which makes no sense. Definitely seedy.

actually, this is not uncommon since the sidestand mount is cast as part of the engine case. sure, it could be welded but who would ever trust it to hold?

whatever, $6500 for a badly busted 796 with a salvage title is way too much

Agreed. I believe it could have been backed into on the right side, the sidestand mount cracked the casting, the insurance totaled it (reported it as salvaged to the state), He got a check, and kept the bike for a small fee.

Now here's the thing that concerns me - if it's really a simple weld, why wouldn't he have it done and then get the rebuilt title, and sell it for a decent price? Even then it would only be worth about 3K to me at most..

But the cynic in me sees:

(mechanically it is perfect, starts, idles, and runs fine, and is in drivable condition).
And I wonder if it rides fine? When the front fender was cracked, were the forks stisted and it doesn't ride fine?

Either way, this guy has no idea that the bike isn't worth anywhere near what he wants, and I hope that he doesn't find someone that gullible.
