Monster 1100 evo valves adjustment

Hi,

It's not for now but I am preparing. I read a lot about adjusting the valves and there is too much information so i'm a little confused. Some say it's complicated other that it is super simple to do by yourself. I've tried it on a V45 Magna a few years ago and I did a good job, but when I look at the accessibility on the Monster, I think that there a lots of parts to dismantle to do the job. I also read that it's often just a verification because we're within the specs, so no shim to change. Then there are the stories of EMS shims and MBR collars. What is the benefit of these vs. the OEM parts and is there an advantage to replace the OEM by them when checking the valves even if everything is in the specs. Do you adjust your valves by yourself or the job is done by your mechanic? How much does it cost only adjusting valves on a 2V? I like to do my simple mechanical myself, but the valves is stressing me a bit.

Thanks

Kafou

I just did my first valve check on a Hyper 796. Read everything you can. Take your time. I spread it out over several days. Taking off the tank is a big part of the job with a Hypermotard. Maybe not so bad for a Monster.

I had to replace both opener and closer shims on both exhaust valves. It would be nice if you had a local source of shims. I live about 8 miles from Ducshop and they were very helpful.

If you decide to have a shop adjust your valves, expect to pay $100-$200 depending on how much shimming needs to be done.
