Ducati Monster not charging
So I have an 09 monster I bought with 5200 miles on it. I've since put 1100 miles on it. In basically 4 months. Winter hits, I start noticing the battery is weak. Later I replace the battery, and add a tender. Battery still is not seeming to hold a charge will be ridden. I read up about testing the stator. Best I can tell is the stator is shot on a bike with no miles on it.
I guess my question is, how hard is it to change out the stator on a monster 696? I have some mechanic knowledge, and lots of electrical. I'm starting to think I may be over my head with this. Also what should it cost to have a dealer do it?

Easy piecey...Pull stator cover (you might need a puller, ebay is full of them) switch out the stator, ebay is full of used stators for 40/50 bucks as well...or get a new one I suppose (pricey). simply unbolt the old one ...3 to 4 screws , mount the replacement it will have it's own pig tail. (make sure the one you get matches yours. Put back together. If you take it to the dealer, stop by and take along some vaseline ; - )

Thanks for replying Riley,
I'm new to mechanic stuff, that's the crank case yes? I assume there will be oil and seals involved? Should the oil be changed at the same time? I was reading you can use the clutch slave to pop it out, in lieu of the puller?

Well I followed the three yellow wires. Checked for continuity between them, and also again with a ground. Then I started the bike, and checked for voltage coming from them again, a crossed two at a time, and then against a ground. Best I could measure was 1.~ ac. I just read it matters which side of the meter you use, so I will test again with red on the stator wires and black on the ground. My thoughts are it doesn't matter, as I tested with just the three yellows and still got essentially nothing.

The reason I ask is because I rarely see a bad alt. Whats the charging voltage at the battery?Speaking of the battery, did you replace it with a quality one? I've seen way more junk batteries than bad alts. Have you checked the rectifier?

The battery has a date code of early 08. It's not so far fetched. Plus the guy who owned it before me just let it sit all winter, no tender. Bike does not have any warranty.

The voltage does not change much when the bike is started. 12.1 before and 12.0 after. Usually after ridding it for a few (20 mins) you start to see the voltage dip into the 11.7~ volt range.
I just tested the rectifier, power is only flowing positive out of the red and negative out of the green wires. Also looked at the stator again. Their is continuity from the stator to the frame, and between all three phases. Also there is differing resistance on the phases. That tells me either the wires have broken down and are grounding out at the crank case cover, or inside. From what I have read there should be no continuity to the stator from the frame.
The battery is an AGM battery from batteries plus. I forget who they said it was made by, at the time I believe it was a name brand. But it does charge and run the bike for an hour with out issues.
The old Yusa battery was SLA. It did not hold a charge nearly as well. After charging it over night, the charge was much lower, after starting the bike.

The regular went out on my 696 at 4000 miles. After checking the battery, I replaced the regulator first as a gamble, cheapest route to go since the dealer is 2hrs. away and $$$$.
