Bubble Inside My Tank!

G'day all,

Was swapping out a fuel filter today and came across this unusual suspect...

Anyone seen anything similar? It seems kind of like a blister... Could only see that one in there, I just left it alone, but I wondered if anyone knew what might have caused this, or whether it might cause any issues? The bikes an 06 M620ie.

Would appreciate any advice!

Cheers,

Tk

It may be a flaw from the manufacturing process, unless it wasn't there before, in which case it's probably a result of the nylon absorbing water.

Hmm, well this is the first time I've ever seen inside it myself so not sure if it's a factory defect. Could be water I suppose, but how would the nylon absorb water inside the tank? I guess I'll keep an eye on it and see if more pop up. Might give the dealer a ring too and see what they say.

Cheers,

Tk

The problem with the nylon tanks and ethanol isn't the ethanol itself, but the water that is absorbed by the ethanol. The nylon then absorbs the water, and you end up with tank expansion/deformation and bubbles. PA6 nylon can absorb up to 10% of its weight in water, if I remember correctly.
