Thumbs up im new to the ducs. id like some info.

i just bought a 1995 ducati m-900 from my neighbor. he bought it new off the showroom floor. it has 8700 miles on it. its a little old but it fits me nice. i was just wondering if there was anything that i should know about the monster, little quirks or whatever. this is my first bike that i have had. its kinda big for my first bike but i didnt want to get bored with a 600. btw i paid 2500 for this bike was it a good deal? and info would be appreciated. ive been thinking about clip ons or capri bars for it. ive havent taken it for a drive in the last three years but... i just want to know what all of you think.

$2500? Yeah, I'd say that was good deal. Well done.

As for the bars, I'd say get used to riding the bike the way it is first, then get into customizing it.

Other than that, enjoy!!!

Older monsters are fairly realiable. I have a 94' with 32,000 miles on it. Check the wires from the alternator to the voltage regulator. Ducati electrical engineers must have miscalculated the capacity for these wires on all their older bikes. The wires are too small and tend to get hot, cause the resistance is too high for the current that passes through them. After all these years, the insulation broke down. I caught it before anything happened and put in a stretch of new wire. I also eliminated the connector with some crimp joints. It is also known to go bad. Another problem I had early on were the steering head bearings. Guido didnt put enough grease in them when assembling the bike, and they got dry and wore out. Bike demonstrated a weave in the handlebars going around high speed sweepers. If your bike is handling weird, I would have them checked.
