s2r running okay?

I just bought a 2008 s2r 1000 with only 2700 miles. this is my first ducati so im still getting used to it versus the japanese bikes i have ridden in the past.

I am noticing some oil sitting on the baffles of the vertical cylinderhead. i clean it off and after i go for a ride i see a little more. its not dripping or anything, almost like its sweating...? is this something to be concerned about with such low mileage?

Also, the bike feels very rough when im riding it under 3000 rpm, especially in higher gears. Runs great after 3000 rpm. is this normal for this bike?

The rough running at low rpm is normal but the oil weeping isn't. I'd clean it real good and then see where it's coming from.

Hopefully it is just the valve cover. They use an o-ring to seal it, but if it was not tighten correctly it could seep.

Like The DuckMan said... clean it up good. Observe it at idle. If nothing comes out... Go for a short ride to get the oil pressure up and see if you can located the source before it gets messy.

If it is the intake valve cover, it might make sense since they used dual use bolts that hold the valve cover down and also support the battery box. I hate taking that thing off!!! The rear exhaust cover is basic and just the four bolts with minimal tightening. It's the o-ring that keeps it dry.

Congrats!
I recently got an '08 S2r 1000 also. I've had Ducs before so I anticipated the crappy running under 3 grand. They run them so lean (for the EPA) that they can't run right. If you plan to keep the bike fairly stock get a Fat Duc O2 manipulator. It will smooth out your low end performance. I got mine from DesmoTimes. 100% plug-n-play. 5 minute install. Worth every penny of the $80! (get LT Snyder's DIY book, too!)
