14/41 sprocket setup

Does anyone know if a 14/41 sprocket setup on a M796 would require a new chain?

I currently have a 14T sprocket, but still think the gearing is too tall.
I still find the 6 th gear useless, unless Im riding above 90mph which is once in a blue moon.

You should be able to run the chain you have on it now
Dependent on miles on the chain and sprockets

Run your numbers through gearingcommander.com
on a 14/41 a 100 102 104 106 108 link chain is optimum for wear
a 15/44 is equal to a 14/41
You may be happier with a 14/39 for average riding
Plus it is economical mod to simply change the front sprox

Fantastic website! Thanks!!! My stock gearing is 15/39, I switched to a 14t front but I still feel as if the gearing is too tall. The motor seems to struggle if I attempt to cruise at 70mph in 5th gear.
The calculations show that all I need to do for a 14/41 combo is to move the rear wheel 0.19 inch closer. I'm guessing I should have enough room to retain the stock chain.

Finally got around to installing a 14/41 setup. It did require a new chain, 108 links. Manged to get a DID 525VM2 chain from Riders discount for $70!!! I switched to a quick change carrier, which should make future sprocket changes a breeze.

Major difference in ride!! I previously had a 14/39 setup, but the gearing was way too tall, too much lugging, 6th gear was usesless unless I was going over 95mph.

Shifting is much much much smoother now! Powerband when shifting no longer bogs down when shifting up. Feels very much like my previous japanese liter bike....smoooooth and fast!! Gobs of low end torque......insane!!

I attached my gps to see if there was any change in speedo readings, im relieved to say that speedo has not been affected, and ABS still functions as usual when I jam on the brakes! This is the way Ducati should have setup up the Monsters in the first place. Power is no longer anemic as before.

I agree that Ducati should have setup up the Monsters in the first place with the lower gearing. They should also come with Termi exhaust and open airboxes.

I'm happy it is working out for you. Part of the fun is getting the bike to run better.
