Rings for M750 wet clutch

I overhauled my 750Monster (1997), and used some parts from a 750SS.
Now there's a black, thinner ring for the clutch and I'm not sure if it must be installed and where - on the outmost position (below the securing ring)?
The picture shows the ring, not installed (on a tool), below my clutch.
