Removing Decals from Frame Illegal?
My 2012 M796 has way too many decals on the frame, its more silver than red LOL!
Does anyone know which decals have to stay and which ones i can get rid of? Im assuming the one on the right with the VIN number is mandatory. Are emissions label not mandatory considering Motorcycles are exempt from Smog.

The VIN number should also be stamped into the headstock and also into the engine casing. The label is there for convenience, not a legal requirement. If you are uncomfortable losing the information, take a good picture of each and keep it for posterity. The stickers are hideous. You'll need a good heat gun and lots of patience to get them off, most likely in pieces.
If bikes were exempt from (pollution regulations) there would not be a vapor recovery tank or catalytic convertor, or such lean tuning on the engine. They may currently be exempt from inspection in many states, but with all things governmental, expect that to change for the worse in the future.

A friend of mine who had bought a used E900 that had been repainted wanted to sell it recently to buy a MTS 1200.
I knew of a rider in Canada that had been looking for a bike like his for some time.
He was willing to pay about $800 more than it can be sold for in the USA.
But because they had removed the VIN sticker (all the stockers actually) from the side cover where they had been the sale fell through.
Without the stickers the bike would have been a nightmare to import into Canada.
So just be sure they really aren't needed for anything before removing.
Down here in the US he has advertised the bike for a while and has gotten no interest.

I removed mine recently and gave them a new home, right under the seat. All the info stays with the bike and it looks much better.

Funny, my friend with an 07 S2R did the exact same thing, so Im guessing the decals did not break up into pieces when you pulled it off.

I did this as well, except I keep the stickers with the manual. If you're careful while taking them off they'll stay intact. It's not a quick process.

I carefully peeled mine off and stuck in the manual, but think about it, what happens if you repaint a frame, and you can't get replacement, if it were illegal you'd never be able to sell the bike again.
The one that counts is the vin and as someone pointed out that's stamped in the headstock.

The stickers are easier to take off in one piece when the bike is new. If there is a place to re-stick them on the frame under the seat where they won't be seen, that would be a good idea. The DMV likes to see stickers attached to something permanent like the frame, as opposed to the seat which can be replaced.
I don't believe you need to re-stick all of them. There was only one sticker that the DMV wanted to see, the last time I registered a used ST4 in California. It was the one certifying that it met the USA emissions standards. It was a very permanent sticker that we found on the frame under the seat as installed by Ducati. The previous owner had removed all other stickers which was no problem at all. They also verified the VIN stamped on the frame, the mileage, and if it was originally a 49-state bike or a CA bike (found on the sticker and the VIN).
The California DMV does not allow a non-CA bike to be registered in CA unless it's a used bike with at least 7500 miles on the odometer. With less than 7500 miles the DMV considers it "new", and it must be a CA bike to be registered by the new owner in CA.
EDIT: by the way, other than the stickers - NICE BIKE!
