Exhaust valve falt in 09 M1100

Long story short my 09 m1100 with less than 4k miles is in the shop for what was an intermittent fault. Turns out there were a couple of wires that shorted and caused the fault. "Repairing" the wires fixed the problem but now the exhaust valve (flapper valve) doesn't function correctly and the shop is thinking it is the dash. Has anyone else seen this problem? I am told this is the first of it's kind. I have read about electrical gremlins in this year and am glad I have an extended warranty but really would like to get my monster back and start the mods I have planned.

Check your manual, that flapper valve may still covered under the emissions warranty. Maybe they can fix it on Ducati's dime and save you some cash .

I have had this fault since I have had my bike. When my check engline light comes on I just ignore it usually. Its only when I ride hard and go on and off the throttle like fun roads.

I have had it adjusted I think 3-4 times actually. The answer I keep getting is, "When you get Termi's this will stop". Not sure its the right answer but the agreed upon one.

If anyone has had this completely resolved I would love to know.

I got the EXVL error on my 09 1100s about a year ago. I got the exhaust valve motor replaced under warranty and it's been fine since.

1. Have the shop check your bike with a known working exhaust valve motor.

2. If that isn't the issue, have them check the settings. It is very finicky.

3. THEN, replace the dash. I had an EXVL error after I installed a tidy tail kit and the check engine light wouldn't go away. They replaced the dash and the CEL was persistent. Just before they were about to replace my entire electrical harness, they double-checked some settings with their computer diagnostics, and voila, fixed.

Here is my thread from another forum...

Thanks for all the great advice and input, I am getting a little frustrated with the time it takes Ducati to get back to my dealer to authorize repairs and parts. It,s going on two weeks now and I can't believe Ducati would think this is OK. A shorted wire was found from the dash to the flapper, repaired then still problems. Waiting for them to say it's OK t replace the dash to see if thats the problem, sounds like it might just be settings or adjustments. Does it do any good to rattle Ducati customer relations?

No. A lot of the info/part they get are from Italy...and you can't rush Italians. Btw, look at the timeline in my other thread/forum...two weeks is nothing!
