Traction Control Quick Launch / Wheelie?
I drove my M1100 Evo to work very early in the morning, and there was nobody on the road, so I decided to see what the bike could do coming off the line. (Keep in mind, I only have ~1,000 miles on the bike and haven't really tried using all of its power yet)
From reading other posts on this forum, I was fully prepared for the front end to come up in first gear, but to my surprise, the traction control cut power to the rear wheel at about 5k rpms (estimate). I tried 2 more times, and each time the bike cut power.
All 3 times I was going in a straight line, and temperatures are around 70 degrees, so I doubt that my rear wheel was about to break free. Is the bike sensing that the front wheel is about to come off of the ground?
I think that my traction control level is set to 2, but could be wrong - it's whatever the dealership recommended when I picked it up back in June.
Any thoughts and suggestions on this is greatly appreciated.

It's easy to check which DTC setting is selected. Just toggle up on the the menu switch on the left pod. Mine was set at 4 when I picked mine up a couple weeks back, havent tried changing it yet.Im not sure if it will let you change modes while riding, but maybe thats the abs, owners manual will tell you if all else fails. I havent really messed around with all that stuff yet. Hell, I just got around to setting the clock after 1000 miles.

The setting is at 2, but even when I turned the DTC off, it still cut out when I was ripping the throttle.
I'm completely baffled here.

Could you be hitting the rev limiter? Its not marked on the tach, peak hp is at 7750 (according to my dyno sheet from when I had it broke in on the dyno) with hp dropping off pretty steep afterwards,I belive rev limit is 8500rpm... only other thing I could think of maybe some sort of ecu fueling issue?? hope you get it figured out.

another possibility is if your front wheel comes up and it slows down quickly, the ECU/DTC will cut power.
If your front wheel has enough drag, the front wheel will slow down quickly and cause a speed differential between the front and rear wheel. Rear wheel faster than front wheel CAN BE MISCONSTRUED as loss of traction.

I have a post on another forum about my recent exploits in learning to wheelie my EVO, but here's my experience:
Traction control will make wheelying impossible. But if it's off, I have no trouble getting my front wheel off the ground. In first gear I get to around 25 mph, chop the throttle, then immediately roll back on it and the front wheel comes up. I'm now in the stage of learning to modulate my throttle control to get it where I want it. Then I'll learn how to keep it there
Good luck!

The dtc must be different on the monster then the Multistrada the Multi's will wheelie great with dtc on as long as the rear doesn't slip. I have dtc set at 2 in sport mode and bike wheelies fine but in touring mode which is set at 5 I've had the dtc kick in at about 50mph with the front wheel 5 feet off the ground the front end came down so hard it bottomed out the forks and really pissed me off. Anyway the way the dtc is set up it's prob. only smart to turn it off when wheeling the bike.

Thanks, for all of the feedback. I'll see what happens when I turn it off (if it ever stops raining).
I was surprised that chopping the throttle at 25mph and then ripping it doesn't cause the back wheel to break free (assuming you're in first gear).
