M1100 S Subframe Opinions?
I don't really care for the cheapo finish of the subframe on the monsters. I like the lines and subframe itself, just not the finish. I was considering sanding the bumby finish down and having it painted. I was considering either having it painted gloss black or maybe matching the corse theme I have on the bike. I'm really leaning towards having it painted to match the them. What are your opinions? Cheesy, sexy, none? If I had a red frame and the I.O.M. 78 bodywork, I would definitely do it due to the matching lines of the bodywork art and subframe.

IMO - don't do that.

I don't like the look of it either so this winter one of my projects will be to at least smooth it out and possibly paint it. I am looking at a flat black scheme for the bike so it will fit in better. Don't like the Corse option really but thats just me.

That piece always should have been trellis...
The cast piece is the least "Ducati" thing on our bike. You'de be calling attention to what looks like a slapped on Kawasaki part.
I would have been happy to pay the extra 50-100 bucks for a trellis.

I agree with you wholeheartedly. For whatever reason, the subframe stands out to me. It just catches my eye and say's "I don't belong here. I was an after though" on a bike that is otherwise beautifully crafted. A trellis subframe would be preferred. I don't mind the fact that it is composite, the lines and shape are attractive enough for me. The off color and poor lumpy finish catch my eye though. 3 of the top 4 bikes (imho) in the '11 Monster Challange have changed the appearance of the subframe. The UltraMonster done by Bellissimoto painted the sub red to match the trellis, Arrick's 1100R went with $3k CF subs, and Golden Arrow painted it gold to match the custom gold/black theme of the build. I agree with everyone so far that painting it Corse would only draw attention to something that doesn't need it. I think sanding it smooth and painting it gloss black to match the trellis is the way to go. I have the same opinion of that fugly grey plastic lower headlight piece. NOWHERE else on the entire bike is there a cheap grey piece of plastic to be found. It will be painted or powdercoated black ASAP (grrrr, sorry for that rant).

I think it looks better being completely different from the trellis; if it were smoothed and painted to match it would look like it is trying to be something it isn't (IMO).
