M696 Termis - Way too loud
I finally bit the bullet and bought a pair of Termis for my M696. I installed them last weekend myself but couldn't ride because of crappy weather.
I, of course, started it and revved it a bit in the garage last weekend... and at idle, it sounded amazing. TONS more bass than stock, better tone... just amazing.
Well I just got back from a quick 2 hour ride and... it sounded great at idle, yes, but it's waaaaay too loud for me.
Anywhere up the rev range it just screams. I felt paranoid people were looking at me and thinking I was a public nuisance at 7 AM in the city of Chicago. It didn't matter where I kept it... I short-shifted and rode at 2,000 RPM... it didn't matter. Way too loud.
The QUALITY of the sound was great though! Lots of bass, kind of a woodier tone... it really was nice but the volume was just too much. On the ride home I put in earplugs because my ears were ringing.
So next weekend I'm going to run it with the db killers in but from what I've read, this returns it too close to stock in which case -- why did I just pay up the nose for another stock exhaust?
I'd love to see pictures of everyone's modified db killers. I know some have drilled extra holes in them or shortened them. If anyone can post pictures, that'd be great. I may give that a shot if running with stock db killers is too quiet but... I may just say, forget it, take them off and sell the cans.
Cheers!

They were looking at you alright. It's a Ducti!
Play with different size decibel killers. It will tone it down a bit and still sound great.

You can cut the DB killers and/or drill holes in them to adjust the volume to your liking.

It's loud, but that's why 90% of us get 'em! My 1100 with Termis + baffles sounded muted, docile, not unlike a lawnmower . So I took out the baffles and never looked back.

+1 on that, you should be wearing earplugs when you ride, Termis or not.

Sorta defeats the purpose, doesn't it?
It's like turning up the lights in your house enough that you're forced to wear sunglasses. I don't think the standard exhaust requires earplugs. Wind noise, yes, but not the exhaust. I like Termis for their improved sound, not (necessarily) the decibels.

Maybe a little, but when you start up your engine without the baffles those first few minutes in the morning are awesome .
When the baffles are installed, it's not only the sound volume that decreases its the tone/note too.

That makes sense. Everyone's ideal volume/note will vary. My preference is probably somewhere in the middle, definitely with a lower, throaty note.
