Something Different Moto Guzzi done Bimota Style

Another lesser known Italian specialty company that uses an Italian powertrain and turns it into something as lovingly crafted and unique creation much like Bimota, Ghezzi Brian. Only a handful came into US as the distributor couldn't make a go of it. Still available as a kit or complete bike in the rest of the world. This is a 2003 1200 Supertwin. Guzzi engine/trans, frame, suspension, etc all Ghezzi Brian. The workmanship and components are like the Bimota, top of the line and 100% a work of rolling art.

If I ever come across a cheap Guzzi for sale, I would be tempted to do something like this. Thanks.

This one was not expensive, I'm the third owner. The original owner thought "it rode like a buckboard' so it didn't go for top dollar. Sure did when it was left as delivered set up with everything set to as stiff as possible for the track. A couple of hours setting it up so it was moderately complaint on the street and no worse than most other Italian race reps and better than some. It is nicely complaint now, although it is happier on decent pavement than some of the garbage you have to live with around here.

I'd like to run down one of their "nakeds" which turn up from time to time. Dave

In response to a mild disagreement with another Bimota owner on this group who has not seem a Ghezzi 'in the flesh' and questioned whether the metal work or design measured up to Bimota standards, here is a close up of the airbox built into the frame, the main frame pivot and the brake assembly -- very nicely executed and painted.

The strangest race guzzi I have ever seen was one where the motor was reengineered to have the heads fitted backwards. Thus the air was rammed in and the exhaust was short and straight out the back under the seat? must have saved a lot of weight. Wish I had a link to show you all

Nothing to re-engineer, just swap the heads, and make a special cam.

I looked around and people want a lot of money for Guzzi's in America. I did find a Euro spec 850 Mk5 Le Mans, but he wanted 9 grand for it.

Well, considering it must be the only one on the planet! (Mk5 are 1000, not 850).

Here, figure USD 3-4k, maybe 5 if it's mint (and I have seen some).

Now, a mint 850 Mk1/1 would be worth the money (the first group of first series LeMans came with open pipes, the later not)

I bought mine (MkIV) new in CT back in '85 (25 years ago), paid $5500 for it. Still ride it, in fact it's one of the only bikes I keep registered year round (mainly because taxes and insurance are cheap on it).

Well, I don't know much about Guzzi's. I looked again and it's a Mk 2.

That particular bike has been for sale forever. It has been 'modified' or cannibalized to the point where it is neither fish nor fowl. No collector value and too much money for an everyday rider. A fully restored LeMans I just went for a 'buy it now' on ebay of $9000. This FrankenGuzzi has been for sale for nearly two years now at the same price. What does that tell you on pricing? Dave
