How did you get into Bimotas?

And which model did it for you? For me, it was about 15 years ago, in college. I saw the new SB6 in the magazines, but never dreamed that I'd actually own one. I could barely afford my '93 CBR900RR (red/white/blue)!

Anyway, I started my career, Bimota went bankrupt, and over time I forgot about the brand. About a year ago I was messing around on the internet and discovered that not only is Bimota back, but we have a local dealer.

Rang him up, we eventually found my SB6 and the rest is history. I finally have my Dream Bike - well one of them anyway! It was well worth the wait. Now trying to decide what to park next to it.

Cycle Guide and their story on the HB2. Many years later came close to buying a Dieci in the crate from someone in Portland Or. but was to busy with other things and never went through with it.

About eight years ago was asked to check out some bikes for a friend and there were two bimota's among the collection of bikes, bought both of them and my passion has grown.

I had just moved to Florida in '96. At the end of the year I got my hands on Motorcyclist's Buyer's Guide for the new '97 models. The SB6R was in there. It was love at first sight but the $23000 price tag was way out of my league. I finally got one in '04. It's a '97 with 2400 miles. Drove from NC to Utah to pic it up. Right now it's in my Man's Room with my '93 RS125 Honda GP bike. It's still one of the sexiest bikes ever made. I hope to get an SB2 someday to go with it.

My DB2

As an arch Ducatistica, when the DB Worm came out in '94 and my buddy got one directly from the USA distributor, I was all over it until he decided he needs some cash. Had it ever since and truly adore it.

I read about Bimota's as a teen and never had the money. The articles were so exotic about machines made to be for pure road and track fun. But ways out of reach and thus even more, the perfect fantasy. So when the time came and I finally did, it was the DB2, 4 and so on that go me interested again(I'd bought an 800SS). Then the rules of import and insurance game just made it the best possible bike to own, not to mention the quality, motor, handleing etc.etc.etc. One has to love what you ride and this bike is the one. It took years to get back into bikes and the years lost were only possible by a complete cold turkey absence. So glad I have my DB2, just wish I could collect them all!

Like most of us, I've admired them from afar for a long time. But after a couple close calls, I "quit riding forever" on the streets.

Well, that's tough to do (obviously). Finally I hit upon a (huge misnomer coming) "foolproof plan".

I knew I should ride less enthusiastically, but that had always been difficult for me (now this a non-issue with the emergence of track days, and also my Lola road race car). So I schemed up what would be the "perfect" street bike for me.

It had to be a sportbike, but to slow me down, it should be really expensive...so that I can't afford to drop it.

Also, it should be Italian....so that it won't run that often and, keep me off the streets in the first place.

It should be made of exotic materials and parts, so that I enjoy tinkering with it and looking at it.

The choice was obvious: a Bimota!!

That plan worked pretty well...except when Bimota # 1 was down for repairs, I bought another...and then another...and...well....at this point I'm down to 3 of 'em now (2 currently running).

So the "foolproof" plan didn't work with this fool. I'm enjoying the bikes immensely, bought a 748s for my wife, and we're completely at ease with riding for the rest of our lives.

So far, so good.

Bruce
