Moto Corse Exhaust...(Am I loosing It?)
Gents,
I could use some input. Particularly, about a Moto Corse exhaust system for my 2006 Bimota SB8K. As it stands, Moto Corse is the only aftermarket exhaust manufacturer I'm aware of for the SB8K ( please correct me if I'm wrong on this ). I've had an aftermarket exhaust on every bike (and nearly every car) that I've ever owned. There's just so much added enjoyment to the bike when you bring out that beautiful sound; and that's not the only pro- road safety (driver awareness), aesthetics, and I suppose value are other substantiated reasons. Preaching to the choir here, I know...moving on .
If you're familiar with the name, you know how exceptional Moto Corse products are- especially their exhaust systems. They're hand made pieces of automotive art...with a price tag that follows suit.
In this case, the two systems offered are both "one-off" on a made to order basis; a slip-on ($2700 delivered), and a full system ($4599 delivered). Before you puke on your keyboard at the prices (like I about did initially), I could use your input. I'm tempted to pull the trigger on the full system, mainly because my past experiences with Ducati exhausts have taught me that there's more value in them. With a full system, you typically end up gaining hp/tq throughout the rpm range (dependent on exhaust tubing size vs. engine displacement of course), and also getting a completely different sound out of the engine. With the slip-on's, you rarely gain anything in the power department (if not loose power), and they generally only increase the existing stock sound, as opposed to "tuning" the sound as the full systems do. That said, I'm naturally inclined to consider the full system over the half (while trying to ignore the fact that it's $1800 more! ). For those of you who own/have owned Moto Corse exhausts, or own an aftermarket exhaust for your Bimota- Is it worth the price tag? Do you have any regrets? Am I loosing my mind to consider shelling out $4600 for a motorcycle exhaust system?! Your thoughts and comments are much appreciated.
Thanks!
Ross

I think your bike comes with a set of pretty good headers already. If you want louder then the stock mufflers the first question would be can you adjust the ECU for them. If not, would keep stock mufflers. If you can there are other options. This system was made by me for my YB11 titanium Muffler and titanium mid pipe for well lets say a few bucks under 3000.00 .

ZAWA- Thanks for the comment. That's a great point about ECU tuning on the SB8K. I know that it's tunable to some extent, but I only presumed that it could be tuned via PCIII or some such method. Can anyone verify this? That would be a show stopper otherwise.
That's a beautiful exhaust system you had fabricated on your YB-11! Nice work. I thought about this option, but was concerned about the fact that whomever built the exhaust would be spending $0 on R&D, and would therefore end up with a primitive system adding no hp/tq increase, or possibly even loosing some. Did you do a before/after dyno on the bike? If not, any "butt dyno" increase/decrease? Who built the plumbing for your bike and how long did it take them to fabricate? Finally, what tuning method did you end up using on your YB-11?

You only live once. Get the MotoCorse exhaust. You won't be disappointed.
I had the Ti system on my DB2. Seriously nice.

I was thinking of doing a lot of work on my SB8RS, cams larger bore, what ended the project was told a power commander would not work. The ECU should be able to be tuned but by whom and where. I do have a fuel trimmer on mine already but feel it would not give me the results I would like.
A muffler is a muffler core dia. times length.
The header is were the real work is done and I think you could not do much better.
I did a lot of work on the YB11, the airbox was made larger with a larger filter, lite porting to match the intakes, and rejetting the carbs.. Had it on a dyno after I think it was about 133hp. Which would be 5-7hp over stock.
On my SB8RS which has had a lot of work done on it getting the suspension set up for me and lighter wheels which you have gave me the most improvement.

ZAWA- Thanks for the reply. Just sent off an email to Moto Corse for clarification on the tuning that would be required. Hope to hear back from them soon...preferably in English.
Both your YB11 and SB8RS sound like a blast! I personally plan on doing five things to this bike and being done:
1. Exhaust/tune (You know why if you've made it this far... )
2. Sargent Seat (MUCH more comfortable than stock)
3. 3M Clear Bra (save my brand new paint finish)
4. Rearset modification to GP shift (much prefer this style over conventional)
5. Front/rear Ohlins suspension re-valve/setup for my weight and riding style.
Everything else about the bike is just perfect- nothing to improve upon IMO.

I have a SB8R with a Motocorse Slip-on and is fantastic, you can see the picture in www.bimota.ch in his registry,
I bought the bike with the Motocorse.
The Motocorse leader in Spain is the same that Bimota, if you want, I ask them.

Thanks for the input so far guys...
Bimotard- Checked out the website; beautiful SB8R! I have seen the bike before, but didn't know it was yours. As you can imagine, I'm also a fan of your SB8K . Did the flame tempering blue-ish color on the SB8R's exhaust come from Moto Corse this way, or is it simply the result of heat cycling the titanium over time?
If you could ask the Motocorse contact you have in Spain about a comparison of the slip-on vs. full system; I'd be very appreciative! Thank you for offering. At this point, I'm still trying to find out whether or not the SB8K can be tuned via PCIII, etc. to accept an aftermarket exhaust. It's amazing to me how little online info is available on these bikes.
