Oh wow, I have a friend, from Germany who now lives in the Yukon who has one with a sidecar. He came here on a holiday with his 250 and wanted to ride to Alsaka with it! He did just that and more, put on over 10,000 km and it ran like a top. His is older though.

I have a question about the following label:
"Vehicles acquired in foreign countries other than the U.S. and designed, built, tested and certified to meet either all applicable Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standards or all applicable United States Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards and bearing a statement of compliance label affixed by the original manufacturer" This comes from this web site: http://www.tc.gc.ca/roadsafety/importation/impxus_e.htm

Being in WI your bikes should have these labels. I was wondering if you could look and take a picture for me? It would be helpfull to see what the label looks like and to show a seller what to look for on his bike. I am almost certain I will end up with a european bike, unless the "RULES" screw me.

Thanks

Check with the DOT, I think if you can show the motor came in too the USA in a different bike and was certified for sale in the USA you can piggyback it in. You would still have to show lights and such were US legal. I think some SB8's and DB4's came in this way. Try googleing bimota SB8R, I think the paperwork will showup.

Update on my search. I had a friend contact the place selling this silver/grey Bimota and found out that it has only been repainted because the woman wanted this color scheme. He knows of the dealer through a dealer friend and says this should be true. It has not been in an accident. I think it looks ok.

I have not heard back about the crated bikes so I assume that was a dead end. There is a bike in Germany I am going after and another friend will go and look at it, soon I hope.

That looks sweet (I actually quite like that colour scheme). Good luck with it and keep us posted!

Hi all db2 fans!

This is a great thread, it makes me appreciate my db2 even more. I just recently
got one, whitout really knowing anything about it, i traded it for a 2006 yamaha
xt660r, and the only research i did was that i found out the engine came from duc
900 ss, so i figured it couldnt be that bad ;-)

After what i understand, there were about 600 build rigth? About 300 at collections?
400 whit the semifaring! How many whit fuel injection? Mý db2 is a 93, red & white full
fairing, it has black wheels, but all the other i seen has white wheel! maybe my wheels
had been repainted, its original from germany, but i live in denmark, and this one is one
out of two registred db2´s here! I wonder how many there is in the us and how many
in europe?

db2 numbers

I have a copy of Bimota 25 years of excellence by Giorgio Sarti and he lists the following numbers on db2 production.

db2 408 total 285 full fairing and 123 half fairing red and white fairing, red frame and white wheels

db2 SR 157 total red, white and purple, gray frame and wheels but they look black in the picture.

db2 FE 100 total 75 full fairing and 25 half fairing, gray and dark gray, red frame and silver wheels or maybe the light gray. No telling because the verbiage contradicts itself.

My counts says the total is 665. Now having said all this I know that Bob Smith has a series of bikes painted in the same pattern as the SR but in red, white and green. It is shown in the book but again the verbiage is different.

I have a 1993 red and white full fairing and love the bike. It is great on smooth surfaces but really jumps around on rough roads. I am looking to convert the stock wheels to the pair of Carrozzeria forges aluminum wheels I have but it will take a lot of work so it is a project for a later date.

And I too have the same bike as shown in your avatar, also from the same source (Bob Smith, delivered by Mitch Hansen to me in 1994, albeit with a very highly 'massaged' 944cc motor, flat sides, cams, etc) So who knows how 'authentic' many of the production figures really are. Dave

The guy I bought mine from told me (and the Germans I've talked to also agree) Bimota did just about whatever they wanted to and had parts for. So if they ran out of white wheels for one model year and the next was black, then you got a few bikes with black wheels for end of the other model run.
This is not a Honda, thank god!
