The YB11

The YB11 is powered by the Yamaha YZF 1000 motor, most say the best running bimota out of the box, no issues with fueling on the bike. One unique feature is the fork the tube's are 51mm and it is a leading axle design. Very quick to turn but also very stable, the bike tends to hunt at low speeds. To correct this problem had made much stiffer fork springs, now running 15mm-25mm sag on the front fork. The bike now feels like a Ducati 999S that I spent some time on.

Other then the forks, installed better flowing muffler and a fabricated titanium midpipe and a new hanger for the muffler. I did a lite porting and blending of the manifolds. Airbox volume was increased and a custom made airfilter is used, there were some minor changes to the jetting. All bolts are ti. or alu. The end result 134hp. with no fans at the dyno. The power is like a turbine it pulls from everywhere.

Cool bike. I really like the way the pipe looks on that.

Nice bike. I also enjoy the almost casual way you describe a host of careful and marvelous updates and improvements you have made on your engine and chassis. I am impressed and envious.

The YB11 has always interested me not simply as the last of the Yamaha powered Bimotas but also in the way the company took the same ground-breaking and now much copied in Japan perimeter frame as on my YB8 (which itself goes back several models) and updated it along with more sophisticated suspension for the YB11. This way done after they introduced the 'straight line connection' in the Suzuki powered SB6 and continued when they brought out the improved SB6R. The SB8R and now the SB8K continued with the newer design, so your bike represents the last refinement of an great design.

Any more treasures in the garage? If so, please share. Dave

Thanks for the compliments on the bike, will try to post more pictures of what's in the garage. But my garage is not as deep as your's. Just missed getting a SB6R by 2 seconds about 10 days ago to add to the collection.

Still would like to know how the SLC concept was used beyond the SB6R? SLC refers to a stright line from steerring tube too the swingarm pivot, this was stopped after the SB6R. It proved to be a deadend for many reasons. Width of frame at swingarm, SB6 is the only bimota that I have ridden on the street where I had to keep my feet with the toes on the pegs to keep from scraping on the road. Lower center of gravity which means more lean angle for a given speed through a corner. Does not use the motor as a stressed member when most motors are designed to be, so more weight and bulk in the frame. Having had a SB8RS stripped down last week to remove cams and the rear shock, it looks much like the frame of the YB11 not like a SLC frame. The frame of the YB11 has much of the cross bracing that the YB8 had has been removed, also the area aroung the swingarm does not have as much bracing. It looks like the frame's of the SB8 series. There are features carried over from the SB6's but SLC is not one of them.

I will own a SB6 or SB6R in the very near future, feeling the SB6 is one of the best looking bimota's of all time.
