New Bimota Owner
Hi All,
I just thought i would introduce myself.
I have just purchased my first Bimota and i am on cloud nine.
The bike is a 96 SB6 red and grey, it has done 24,000 kilometres and is in good condition. I picked it up last Wednesday and have already covered 1500K's what a bike....
I have just started pulling it apart to give it a good clean and service, it has had a couple of mods and being new to Bimota i don't know if they are needed or not.
Over the next couple of weeks i'll post some shots and ask a few questions, hope to speak to you all soon.

Welcome. My very first Bimota was an SB6 and I put some very happy miles on it. The only real issue I had was the two small batteries located behind the steering head. Keep an eye on your charge levels and don't let it sit too long since getting to the batteries for a recharge is a bitch. Other than that, there are no real issues with the bike, the engine pretty much stock Suzuki. I have the SB-6r currently, the mildly updated version (different airbox, slightly longer swingarm and different battery location) and feel these last two Suzuki inline 4 powered bikes are the best combination of performance and maintanence Bimota built. Thanks guys,
Do any of you know what choke cables are used on these bikes? It seems there have been acouple of versions, mine is the late 95 with marchesini wheels, i have bought the hard cover Bimota book and looking at pictures the switch gear and instruments vary, i have the carbon dash with all black switch gear.
Also any information on air filters would be appreciated, mine has a wet oil based filter that looks as though it is held in with a cut up ice cream container lid The worrying thingis that it has a bimota logo on it, it seems they are fanatics about their metalwork but not plastics.
The bike has a lot of road grime and i am in the process of giving it a good clean, the alloy mufflers are pitted and i have been thinking about either getting them polished or have the outers replaced with polished stainless steel, if any of you have done similar your feedback would be welcome.
I would really like it back together so i can ride to the Phillip Island GP, we have a Barry Sheene tribute ride which covers about 300K and is typically lead by Darryl Beatty, so it would be a blast to ride the Bimota on that.
Once again thanks for your feedback and i promise to post some pics soon.
Cheers
Steve

Hello from a fellow SB6 owner! The choke cable should be a Suzuki item. As to the filter - unfortunately I am very new with the bike myself, so I can't really be of much help. All I know is that mine has pod filters on it...
I am considering replacing the mufflers with Motocorse slip-ons, which look DARN sexy.
Hope you will get it all cleaned up nicely in time for the tribute ride. And pics please!

Hi Froryde,
If you have pods does that mean you don't use the original airbox? and if you dont what supports the rear of the fuel tank?
In regards to the choke cable, do you know which way it is routed, could you possibly post some pics of yours without upper fairing if you have them?
Thanks
Steve

SB6 as well with a couple of tips
Keep an eye on your spedo cable routing They packed it in tight with a sharp turn. It binds and grinds inside the cable housing if it is not free for the turn up at the spedo. I went through 3 cables in 3 months. I had a 50 state bike
registered in California. Jetting the bike with better Exhaust certainly helped that bike run right. What a bike , the things I did on that Rocket
I now own a DB4ie fuel injected , the definition of a Difficult bicycle
Slim ,light performs flawless even if you dont have all that extra horsepower.
Its the evolution from all power to balance and finesse and of course being able to carve it up with the best of them
Have fun as I know you will on that bike
